Following the resignation of William Clouston as Party Leader, the SDP has appointed Ross Baglin as Interim Party Leader.
"For almost a decade, the SDP had the best leader in British politics in William Clouston. I was privileged to work closely with him for most of that time....I will not be a candidate for that leadership contest but, as interim party leader for the next few months...and help ensure the party operates smoothly while the new leaders election takes place."

If it’s non-competitive, it should be nationalised.
The market works by having competition drive efficiency. But without competition, it only drives greed.
It’s time to nationalise utilities and make them state-run. 🇬🇧
An individual's connection to a nation has many aspects: ancestral, ethnic, cultural, and legal. Across the world, those who qualify on all four are recognised as feeling a unique and irreplaceable sense of belonging and attachment to their land.
Extremist mass immigration policy over the last 30 years has violated this natural feeling. As a result, we must now contend with a rising tide of anxiety and insecurity, including growing civil unrest as ancestrally English people are projected to become a minority in England by 2050. This insecurity is aggravated by the present Equality Act (2010), which licenses discrimination against them.
Rishi Sunak, in his weekend article for The Times, argued that Englishness should not "become a DNA test". This unhelpfully elides many aspects of cultural and ancestral identity. The United Kingdom is itself a union of nations, and people from different backgrounds can, and do, share a common culture here. Those who live here legally and embrace British culture are our compatriots and part of our national community. The SDP is an assimilationist party, not an ethnonationalist one.
However, preventing the native peoples of Britain from becoming a minority in their own homeland is a legitimate and responsible aim of policy. The SDP's immigration policy will protect our borders and end mass immigration. It will substantially reverse the post-pandemic immigration wave, debar immigration from "red list" countries which show a high level of crime or economic dependency, and detain offshore all illegal entrants prior to repatriation.

Last week, Cllr Jack McGlenen (pictured below with William Clouston), the SDP councillor for Dalton and Dawdon ward on Durham County Council, was violently assaulted in the street, in an attack believed to be connected to his civic responsibilities. He sustained serious but, thankfully, temporary damage to an eye as a result.
We are sure that all political parties join with us in abhorring acts of violence against elected representatives, whatever their political persuasion.
We know that all SDP members will join with us in wishing Jack a speedy recovery and a rapid return to working on behalf of his constituents.

A tax of 1% of turnover shall be levied on all Premier League football clubs to fund the construction of new football pitches and community facilities throughout the country.
Our sporting success must be reinvested in grassroots sport. 🇬🇧
The Republic of Ireland has become one of the wealthiest countries per head in Europe, yet it only spends 0.2 percent of its GDP on defence, relying on Britain to defend its skies and seas.
This relationship has to change, and Ireland must pay its fair share.
Ending the housing crisis is impossible until we solve the root causes: a lack of housebuilding and mass immigration.
If you want to bring the state back into housebuilding and stop mass increases in population that we don’t have the infrastructure for, then support the SDP. 🇬🇧
On Monday a jury at Southwark Crown Court acquitted a foreign national (Dutch) of criminal damage after he defaced the statue of Sir Winston Churchill in Parliament Square.
The SDP takes the view that criminal damage should extend to all physical damage to, and/or defacement of national monuments and statues.

The SDP says NO to separatism.
Interim Party Leader Ross Baglin has issued a statement:
"Governments for the last thirty years have operated within the Blairite settlement - a toxic mix of globalism, Europhilia, identity politics and human rights law, all of which are combining to tear the UK apart. This latest move - which allies the SNP and Plaid Cymru with Sinn Féin - is yet another step toward the disintegration of our nation resulting from this sorry experiment.
The last thing this country needs is more preening politicians of the exact same stripe, hungry for more power, status and resources. We do not need more government. We need good government, a patriotic British state working in the national interest."

The economic philosophy of doing everything as cheaply as possible is wrong.
It means you buy from abroad, import cheap labour at home and, in the process, lose your industry, assets and communities.
At the SDP, we believe in putting the people of the nation first, not behind moral virtue-signalling and big business, but putting citizens first. 🇬🇧
