Outsourcing public services costs billions, as @Cmmonwealth have found.
So I welcome the announcement of the First Secretary of State of a dedicated Insourcing Unit.
I urged the Transport Secretary to develop an insourcing strategy in concert with @RMTunion and others.
Rail union RMT has expressed its deepest condolences and solidarity with rail workers and passengers affected by the dreadful rail crash in Spain.
RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said: "Our thoughts are with all those rail workers, passengers and families affected by this horrific crash and we also express our solidarity with our sister trade unions at this extremely difficult time.”

Thanks to @AndyMcDonaldMP for raising insourcing at Transport Questions and it was good to hear Transport Secretary @Heidi_Labour confirm that she will be looking at insourcing where it can drive better outcomes for passengers and value for money.

As the @Cmmonwealth Report and RMT’s own reports show, insourcing will do both these things.

Replying to @LNER
@LNER like to brag that all their suppliers pay their staff the Real Living Wage, so we are very grateful to @RachaelMaskell and all the MPs that have signed this letter to MD @DavidHorne asking why they are allowing one of their contractors to cease paying the Real Living Wage.
In 1904, a Black railway worker from St Lucia joined the union that would become RMT. His name was Joe Armley. This Black History Month, we're telling his story.
Many thanks to our friends at @RWLDproject for this fabulous piece of research 👏

Every year, £6 BILLION leaves our public services in profits for outsourcing giants.
That would pay for:
🏫 2 years of free school meals
👵 300,000 adult social care workers
🏠 30,000 council houses a year
🏥 200,000 nurses for the NHS

Unaccountable, rip-off outsourcing has eaten away at our public services for decades.
We need new and democratic ways of running the services our communities rely on.

Every year, £6 BILLION is taken out of our public services in outsourcing profits.
That's money for NHS nurses, care workers, free school meals and council homes.
It's time for @andyburnham and the Government to end the outsourcing scam.
