In fall, elk face a tradeoff: migrate now and leave much-needed foliage behind, or stay and risk traveling through early storm snow. #ElkFactFriday

Bull elk bugle to show off their fitness to cows, to warn other bulls to stay away, or to announce they're ready to fight. What do you think this guy is saying?

#TrailCamTuesdays are great reminders that RMEF conservation efforts don't go unnoticed.

This October, ROUND UP at Walmart to support RMEF!
For years, RMEF has partnered with National Fish and Wildlife Foundation through Acres for America to conserve wildlife habitat, improve public access and protect working lands across the country. When you round up your purchases on Walmart.com or in the Walmart app through October 31, your donation helps fund future projects that benefit big game range and migration corridors, forests, grasslands and places to enjoy the outdoors.
Together, we’ve worked on projects such as the 54,636-acre Cumberland Forest in Kentucky and the 47,175-acre Windermere Hills in Nevada.
We’re proud to join the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and Walmart in Conserving America's Big Game. Thank you for rounding up!
Do Not Disturb! Post-rut bulls often prioritize recovery and may select habitats that reduce disturbance risk, even if forage quality is not optimal. #ElkFactFriday

In 1984, four elk hunters founded the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to ensure the future of elk. Since then, RMEF has conserved or enhanced more than 9 million acres of big game habitat!
And we're not slowing down. One square mile a day. Over 10 million acres by 2030.

Federal court hearings are ongoing right now in Montana this morning about three different wolf cases, including one where activists want Northern Rockies wolves relisted despite their multi-decade stability and growth under state management. @RMEF is in attendance.
Wait for it... the victor shall emerge. #TrailCamTuesday

We're restoring Big Game Country in central Utah.
In the Gooseberry drainage, water-hungry pinyon and juniper have been crowding out the sagebrush that elk, mule deer and many other species depend on. RMEF and its partners have removed these undesirable conifers from tens of thousands of acres. Sagebrush, native grasses and mountain brush can now reclaim the hillsides, ensuring better habitat for elk, deer, turkey, grouse and more.
This wapiti is a little camera shy.

APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN! Supporting the education and development of wildlife professionals—grounded in the North American Model of Wildlife Management—is a vital part of RMEF's mission to ensure the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat and our hunting heritage.
Established in 1991, the Wildlife Leadership Awards Scholarship Program was created to recognize, encourage, and promote leadership among future wildlife management professionals. The program is open to undergraduate wildlife students in their junior or senior year and provides a $5,000 scholarship plus a one-year RMEF membership.
Since 1991, RMEF has awarded a total of $663,000 in scholarships to 259 students from 78 universities across 43 states and Canadian provinces.

Congratulations to Chief Conservation Officer Blake Henning (right in photo) on 26+ stellar years at @RMEF of standing up for elk, hunting and conservation. In his words, he is "stepping back" from full-time work with retirement on the distant horizon.
Cow elk exhibit relatively synchronized estrus, concentrating breeding activity within a narrow window and intensifying competition among bulls. #ElkFactFriday

$5 makes a BIG impact! Colorado is launching a new way to make roads safer for both drivers and wildlife. Starting Jan. 1, 2027, residents can opt to pay a $5 prevention fee when registering their vehicle. Funding will go toward building future wildlife crossings. @HunterConserve
Disease surveillance. Wildlife-friendly fencing. Herd health. Habitat studies. These are just a few of the projects RMEF funds to power big game conservation nationwide! #WapitiWednesdays
