I met with law enforcement officials from across the #FightingFifth to discuss how our community can best protect voters’ access to the ballot and ensure confidence in our free and fair elections. Thank you to everyone who participated in this timely conversation.

The best way I can thank our veterans for their service is to fight for them, both in Washington, D.C., and right here at home in the #FightingFifth. At my Veterans Town Hall & Resource Fair, I heard directly from veterans about the challenges they face and the support they need. I’ll take those stories and concerns back to the halls of Congress and keep taking action out loud and on purpose on their behalf. I’m sick and tired of the Trump Administration’s endless attacks on our right to vote. Despite ample evidence that noncitizen voting is extremely rare, Trump continues to manufacture this criss while laying the groundwork and preemptively undermining election results. I have seen this playbook before, and I refuse to stand by while our democracy is under attack across our country.

I am heartbroken by the senseless school shooting in Oregon that took the lives of three children and one teacher and left two others in critical condition. This is the 36th shooting on K-12 school grounds across America this year. That is 36 too many. The impact of this tragedy will be felt throughout the entire community for years to come. We must take meaningful action to strengthen our gun laws and protect our children from the constant fear of being shot in their schools. Our children deserve to learn in safety, not fear. Thoughts and prayers alone are not enough. We need action.

Across the #FightingFifth today, people are wearing purple to stand in solidarity with survivors of domestic violence. Intimate partner violence remains far too prevalent across our country, and too many people suffer in silence. We must continue raising awareness, standing with survivors, and ensuring no one feels alone. 158 days of gas above $4. A new record. Since Trump’s reckless war in Iran began, the average American household has paid an extra $2,000 in costs. You feel it at the pump, at the checkout line, and every time you sit down to try to make your monthly budget work. Working families in the #FightingFifth and beyond shouldn’t have to pay the price for this administration’s reckless decisions.

Voting rights are the foundation of every policy issue. If you care about healthcare, affordability, climate, or any other issue, you care about protecting our right to vote. When the Trump administration attacks that right, they're attacking that very foundation. We will not be silenced, and I will always fight to make sure every voice in the #FightingFifth and across the country is heard. This raid is yet another example of Trump weaponizing the DOJ to target his political opponents. And it is no accident that this comes just weeks before an election in which Rep. Omar is on the ballot. This is a gross abuse of power coming from our highest office of government, and it is completely unacceptable. I stand with Ilhan.

Sustainability and equity belong in the same sentence. At our very first Atlanta Climate Week in the #FightingFifth, I brought the stories of our most marginalized community members to the forefront, reinforcing that innovation, climate justice, and social justice must always be intertwined.
