Invited to 90s themed party, so went as grungy skater dude. Good job most of my clothes date from then anyway. ;-)
Evan only knows why I said love you Betty! I blame Sally for fat finger typing

Excellent, Tweetchat michelle, congratulations from me and Sally
Really good questions and got me thinking a lot about additioanl things we should be doing #LTHEchat
That’s why your pre-arrival questionnaire is so effective and so important in improving student success and retention Michelle
That’s a key point about communication preferences Gustavo as some universities mandate just one means of contact
A6 The information that I would like to know for incoming #students that will help me as a lecturer: their preferences in #learning / #assessment activities or how to #communicate better with them (email, social media, whatssap, pigeons?) #LTHEChat
We both think that is very important point Paul. Some students only keep it all together by keeping some horrible aspects of their lives private.
A6 That’s actually a hard question. There may well be things going in in their private lives that may have a significant impact on their student lives.I don’t think we have the right to intrude unless they willingly disclose. #lthechat
Sounds a great idea
#lthechat A6 that’s a great idea to get to know what they preferred to be called early on. Sally also says getting to know any special or additional needs nice and early is helpful and although they might have notified the university, it doesn’t always get through to us quickly
#lthechat staggering this week when michelle was chatting to our granddaughter, who told us that at school she is lucky as she’s got a laptop to submit coursework from home but lots of kids only had phones. Much of the in class activity was hard copy but submission was hard4them
We think this idea could work really well

What’s the problem with giving real accounts with logons to the university prior to arrival? Says Sally? Because it’s easy enough to delete them if the students drop out or never actually join the course. They used to do this at Leeds Beckett years ago.
Lovely story
#LTHEChat Agree about buddying. As a new student @durham_uni #Trevelyan in the 80s, 2nd year students wrote to new students, I met Sue who written to me, and her friends. They’re still my closest friends from uni. Was really good to have friends outside the subject area
