No one tells pre-meds to work in fast food. But maybe we should. As a doctor, I'm still using lessons I learned working at In-N-Out as a college student. Here are six fast food lessons I'll keep forever:

Just over a year ago, I read a paper which showed that when private equity buys nursing homes, death rates go up 10%. I was a med student at Stanford, but I halted my studies to investigate. Today, that investigation was published in @NewYorker newyorker.com/news/dispatch/…

This letter from my little nephew miraculously landed in my mailbox. It's an 8x10 piece of paper that he folded and taped into a 3x3 square, stuck a stamp on, and put into the mail. Someone @USPS cared enough to hand sort it to its destination. You made this Auntie's day💌

As an oft-injured runner, I learned so much from researching and writing this story. I also got to meet an Olympic rower, an aqua kickboxer, an 80-year-old cyclist, and the most chill skateboarder. All you hard-charging athletes, I salute you!
You may not serve like Serena or sink three-pointers like Steph, but if you’re an athlete, you’ve likely been sidelined with an injury. Learn how sports medicine experts can keep you in the game, on the trails, in the water, and on the courts. magazine.ucsf.edu/get-back-i…

Physical activity brings me such joy, whether it’s running along the bluffs at sunset, splashing in the pool with my nephews, playing golf (poorly, I might add) with my dad, or just walking and talking with my mom.

Athletics has shaped who I am, engendered lifelong friendships, and kept me emotionally steady when I felt like my world was falling to pieces. Speaking of which, gotta go. Sun’s setting and I gotta 🏃🏻‍♀️.

Nearly a decade ago, a busy physician extended compassion and kindness in my moment of pain and fear. This year, I finally had the chance to thank her. A gratitude 🧵 1/x

Two graduate degrees, a research fellowship, and a cross-country move later, I'm now a writer @UCSF. Recently, I had the opportunity to write a sports medicine story. A colleague suggested that I talk to the director of the UCSF Women’s Sports Med Center, Dr. Sara Edwards. 6/x

Yep, the very same doc who had helped me almost a decade earlier. Life is strange that way. Athletics brings so much joy into my life. I'm grateful for sports medicine specialists and their passion to keep us moving for life. The story I wrote: tiny.ucsf.edu/UCSFMagazine end/x

Sad to see that @listingsproject has become the #craigslist of scam rental posts, despite the assertion that their listings are vetted. It took me all of 5 minutes to research one of today's listings and find out it was fake. #caveatemptor #DoBetter #rentals

Dr. Farmer was my inspiration to study public health. I was thrilled to hear him speak at my alma mater @UMich years ago and heartbroken now to hear of his death. Deepest condolences to all those who know and love him.
Partners In Health announced that its founder, Dr. Paul Farmer, unexpectedly passed away today in his sleep while in Rwanda. Dr. Farmer was 62 years old. He is survived by his wife, Didi Bertrand Farmer, and their three children. 1/🧵
RIP Dr. Paul Farmer. Your brilliance is matched only by your legacy of compassion, service, and selflessness. pih.org/article/remembering-…
