Sad seeing people doing tutorials using MCP to create things I ve done years ago with native c4d tools within minutes. Everyone is so eager to expose themselves, even if they are in no position to share anything meaningful or have any actual work to back it up.

If you’re looking for elite designers, your pay needs to be elite too. Because at the end of the day, your product is probably just another boring saas platform or ai wearable that, without good design, will drown in a sea of mediocrity. Unfortunately, this is a problem I experienced back in the day, and it was probably even worse than it is now. Teenage CEOs and startup founders who only care about money, combined with the whole culture of flexing wealth, only make things worse. The sad truth is that some company owners don’t care about design at all. They don’t know what good design is and think it’s just a few clicks here and there. They look for great designers while offering salaries lower than what you’d expect to pay a junior who’s just starting out. You can’t expect elite design while paying entry-level salaries.
ABSOLUTELY SHAMELESS. Julia contacted me to work for @yourpersona and mentioned they were looking to hire full-time. After our call, she took many days to reply. I assumed she was busy, so I let time pass. Then she came back with a project and said: “We changed it to make it easier and less time consuming. To preface, it won’t be paid (I wanted to be clear, since I mentioned that in our last call), since we just want fast work so we can speed up the hiring process. We love your work!” Two things: 1. She never mentioned it wouldn’t be paid on our last call, but I didn’t think much of it. 2.She said she wants to speed up the hiring process. I worked hard on the project. It took me 2-3 hours, on top of a 24-hour deadline for another client, because I wanted to make a good first impression. I submitted it and waited. I knew I did well, and I was confident my designs were better than anyone’s. I waited patiently for days. Then she sent this: “Hey, I have an update! The team thinks you’re a great designer and we would love to work with you, we’re just a little too early to expand right now. We’d love to stay in touch and reconnect in a month or two! I’ll hit you up then :)” Mind you, she said they wanted to hire fast. Now they’re “a little too early to expand”? And she went on to post this engagement farming post. Why is she posting this when she’s already “found” me? The team supposedly thinks I’m great and would love to work with me. I contacted a few friends here on X who have viral posts like mine. They got the exact same message from her. If you’re not ready to expand, why ask for a free trial and promise a full-time role? And why are you now shamelessly posting this to get people to do more free work and hand over more free ideas for your app?

Behance was the platform that helped me gain recognition. Back in the day I was really active there and loved the community - I tried to publish something at least once a month. Then Behance changed, not for the better. The algorithm started recommending low-quality work from people I don't know, the job offers began to disappear, and most enquiries were scam attempts or low-ballers trying to get a 30-second 3D animation for $250 or less. Having a Pro account and being featured as a freelancer did nothing to attract new clients, even with over 175K followers and more than 5 million project views there. It's really sad to see that the platform I used to browse for hours every day is now just a shadow of what it was. Browsing design work on X or Insta doesn't even come close. Thanks, Adobe.

I started doing 3D in 2011 and I wouldn't swap it for anything else. When I first got into design, I focused on 2D work like branding and vector illustration, but I felt I was lacking control over light and shadow. So I decided to try C4D. The rest is history.
