🗨️ What strikes me every year about the PCORI Annual Meeting is not just the range of experience, expertise, and perspectives represented, but what becomes possible when we come together. The exchanges at this meeting infuse our work with new ideas for learning and improvement – ultimately leading to results from PCORI-funded research that are more relevant and useful. #PCORI26

A PCORI-funded study looked at whether web-based tools could help families manage their child’s asthma. Researchers compared outcomes for children whose families used a standard web-based tool to track asthma symptoms and attacks, an enhanced version of the tool or no tracking tool. The study found children whose families used either version of the online tool had better asthma symptom control and quality of life. They also missed fewer school days and had fewer ER or hospital visits. Read more: pcori.me/4yWv9Zt

A breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) makes up about 25% of new diagnoses and may or may not turn into invasive cancer. To treat DCIS, women often opt for breast-conserving surgery. During the surgery, their clinicians may remove just the tumors or also remove some lymph nodes to perform biopsies. A PCORI-funded patient-centered CER study compared outcomes for women who did or did not receive biopsies during their surgeries. Women who had the biopsies were more likely to have certain short-term side effects than women who didn’t, as well as long-term swelling. pcori.me/3VVpO5V
