In this review of Tareq Baconi's memoir, Nadim Bawalsa describes Baconi's striking alignment of his experience as a Palestinian in exile with his journey to queer liberation.
Fire in Every Direction, Bawalsa argues, is a tribute to the queer Arab, to anguished millennials, to Amman, and to every Palestinian struggling with the rage of injustice. Palestinian exile, as Baconi vividly shows, is ongoing Nakba and, until liberation, it is fire in every direction.

Palestinian farmers are being driven from their olive groves by settler violence.
At a Crisis Action briefing last week, Palestinian farmers’ representatives and humanitarian workers warned that settlement expansion and escalating settler violence are threatening livelihoods, displacing communities, and eroding a tradition central to Palestinian life.

🧵In October 2021, Israeli authorities demolished parts of al-Yusufiya Cemetery in occupied Jerusalem to make way for what was described as a “Biblical Park.” The cemetery, located near the Old City and the Haram al-Sharif compound, contains graves dating back centuries, including those of Palestinians: palquest.org/en/overallchron…
Five years later, plans for a biblical heritage park in Silwan continue to be linked to demolition and displacement pressures in al-Bustan, while settler-led tourism and archaeological projects in the area continue to expand. 🧵

How is aviation a colonial instrument in the Palestinian context?
Not only are Palestinians subject to strict screening measures while traveling abroad, but now crew members from some Arab and Muslim countries will also be subject to what has been called “ethnic and gender profiling” on some airlines.
Chin-chin Yap wrote about what flying means for Palestinians in a 2022 article for the Journal of Palestine Studies.

MIT Professor of Linguistics @MichelDeGraff was supposed to teach a class linking Haiti and Palestine, but the university blocked him from teaching, froze his pay, and removed him from MIT’s linguistics department.
His crime?
Proposing this course: "Language and Linguistics for Decolonization and Liberation and for Peace and Community Building — From the River to the Sea in Palestine and Israel to the Mountaintops of Haiti and Beyond."
In a July 2026 essay for the Journal of Palestine Studies, Dr. DeGraff examined the Palestine exception to academic freedom and free speech through the lenses of language, linguistics, history, and knowledge production in a time of rising fascism.
He recounted his personal experiences as a Haitian linguist at MIT who faced administrative, legal, and governmental retaliation in the context of his scholarship on language and linguistics for decolonization and liberation in Haiti, Palestine, and Israel.

What can development achieve when even a city’s water supply depends on Israeli approval? 🇵🇸
For Maya Hilmi, a Palestinian student from Jerusalem studying Global Studies and History at UC Berkeley, Rawabi became a way to investigate that question.
One starting point was Lisa Rofel’s review in the Journal of Palestine Studies, which introduced Maya to Kareem Rabie’s “Palestine Is Throwing a Party and the Whole World Is Invited.”
This is why access to rigorous scholarship on Palestine matters. A book review can introduce a new source, sharpen a research question, and help a student connect what they observe to the structures shaping Palestinian life.
Thank you, Maya, for sharing your research and showing where following the sources can lead. 📚

Shortly before the death of renowned Palestinian artist Sliman Mansour, we published "On the Path of the Ghoul: The Memoirs of Sliman Mansour."
Built on extensive interviews and archival research by Rana Anani, the book situates Mansour’s five-decade career within the Palestinian national movement. It examines the political weight of his work and why it still matters to the Palestinian struggle.

Today, the border “fence” stretches discontinuously along 653 miles of the 1,954-mile U.S. border with Mexico. From Israel’s most recent fencing projects at the borders with Egypt and Gaza to the enclaves of Melilla and Ceuta in Morocco, border fortification has become a lucrative business.
Over the last two decades, the use of Gaza and the West Bank as laboratories has enabled Israel to market itself as the start-up nation par excellence. And as Schivone discusses, the United States has created its own testing grounds for such technologies in Arizona.
