The conversation about Africa's health security needs to shift from what the continent lacks to what it can achieve with the right investments. At the #WorldHealthSummit in Berlin, ONE Africa Executive Director Serah Makka highlighted why strengthening Africa's existing capabilities must be a priority. 🌍

When a health crisis strikes, the speed of a country's response can make all the difference. That means building systems that can detect threats early, mobilize resources and respond effectively, without depending entirely on external support. Partnerships should strengthen that readiness, not replace it.

The goal isn't simply to prepare for the next health emergency. It is to build health systems that are resilient long before one happens. A future where African countries can develop and deliver their own health solutions is a future where the entire world is better prepared. That's what sustained investment can make possible.

Every girl deserves more than the chance to dream about her future. She deserves the chance to shape it. That means being able to learn, lead, create, make decisions about her own life, and have a real say in the decisions shaping her future. This International Day of the Girl Child, we are celebrating girls everywhere who are already showing us what’s possible — and standing for a future where equality and opportunity aren’t determined by where you’re born or whether you’re a girl. Know a girl whose ideas, courage, and leadership inspires you? Celebrate her in the comments.👏🏽

Young people have a huge role to play in shaping what Africa becomes next. And if you’re a young African, that includes you. The ideas you pursue, the businesses you build, the stories you tell, the solutions you create and the communities you strengthen all have a part to play in shaping the future. 🌍🤝🏽 There’s no single way to contribute, either. Your creativity, ambition and perspective all matter — whether what you’re building feels big or small right now. 🔁 Share this with someone helping shape Africa’s future.

We are proud to announce that ONE President and CEO, Amb. Mark Green (ret.), has been named by the German government as a Commissioner of the new South-North Commission on Development – an important opportunity to help shape what comes next for global development. Co-chaired by former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and former Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla, the Commission will bring together leaders from across countries and regions to tackle shared global challenges, strengthen international cooperation, and help shape the global development agenda beyond 2030. Mark brings decades of experience in diplomacy and global development to the role — from serving as USAID Administrator and U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania to helping craft the bipartisan legislation that established PEPFAR and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. As Mark puts it: “No country can solve today's global challenges alone. What unites us must count for more than what divides us. The world doesn't need another report that looks good on paper and changes nothing. We are setting the bar high – solutions that genuinely improve people's lives.” Read the full announcement and learn more about the South-North Commission here: bit.ly/4hCPGe3

You can’t talk about Africa’s future without talking about who gets to shape it. 🌍 Across the continent, young people are creating solutions and pushing for change in their communities. But turning that energy into lasting influence requires more than ambition alone. It means creating the spaces, networks, and opportunities that allow them to participate meaningfully, have their ideas taken seriously, and help shape the decisions that affect their futures. Africa’s next generation doesn’t need to be told to lead. We need to make sure they have the pathways to do it. 📣 Share this if you agree. #Youth #Leadership #Impact

Every child deserves the chance to reach their fifth birthday. But whether they do can still depend on things far beyond their control. In 2024, 4.9 million children didn’t get that chance and nearly six in ten were in sub-Saharan Africa.🌍 We know what works. But lasting progress also means building health systems that can reliably deliver that care — and financing them in ways that are sustainable for the long term.🤝🏽 In his latest article, Director for Health Financing (Africa) at ONE, Dr. William Menson explores the Fifth Birthday Guarantee and why protecting progress means looking beyond the next source of funding. The future of Africa cannot be shaped without its youth. 🌍 Young Africans are already building businesses, driving innovation, shaping culture and pushing for change – and their ideas, leadership and perspectives must also have a meaningful place in the decisions shaping what comes next. The future isn’t just theirs to inherit. It’s theirs to help shape. 🌍🤝🏽 🔁 Repost if you agree. #African #Youth

Africa is a continent of opportunity. 🌍 Across the continent, African innovators, entrepreneurs and a rising generation are building solutions, creating opportunities and shaping industries with impact far beyond their borders. The opportunity now is to make sure the way the world engages with Africa reflects that reality — through partnerships that value African ideas, expertise and leadership. 📣 Share this if you believe it’s time we changed outdated narratives.

"I am always amazed at the ingenuity, the creativity, the entrepreneurship of African youth, working with precious few tools; imagine what the world can benefit from…if we can simply reach out, lift up, and help liberate this huge youth population, which is aspirational, full of big dreams, full of big ideas, simply looking for a chance. We should find ways to be collaborators and enablers…I argue that we help Africa not just for Africa’s sake but the world’s sake; it’s good for all of us.” - ONE President & CEO @AmbassadorGreen today at @semafor's The Next 3 Billion at #UNGA.

We’ve halved it before. We can halve it again. One generation of progress has shown us what sustained investment in vaccines, health workers and stronger health systems can achieve. Now is not the time to pull back. It’s time to protect that progress, keep investing in what works and give more children the chance to reach their fifth birthday and beyond. 🔁 Share if you agree that progress like this is worth protecting. #BornToLive #GlobalHealth
