Recent discussions held at Town Campus between the Dept of Clinical Microbiology and team from University of Zurich - research partners in #antimicrobialresistance, #MicrobialGenomics, diagnostics, #bioinformatics and Artificial Intelligence.
The collaboration with Prof. Adrian Egli's team from University of Zurich over the past four years has supported student and Fellow training, and resulted in five joint publications; there is also an ongoing Indo-Swiss proposal addressing #AMR, a top global health threat, and the air microbiome, through a #OneHealth perspective.
Student exchange programs and a joint workshop on '#ArtificialIntelligence and Diagnostics' are further initiatives planned to strengthen ties - which would ultimately translate into better #diagnostics, stronger AMR surveillance and improved #PatientCare.
CMC Quality Improvement Project titled 'Phased Implementation of the Surgical Safety Care Bundle' was awarded Winner in the Quality Improvement category at the BMJ Awards South Asia 2026, held last month in New Delhi.
The project was presented by Dr. Lallu Joseph, Quality Manager, CMC Vellore, who received the award on behalf of the institution during the award ceremony.
This prestigious recognition acknowledges the collective efforts and commitment of the multidisciplinary teams from Surgery, Anaesthesia, Operation Theatre Nursing, and the Quality Management Cell (QMC) in enhancing #PatientSafety and quality of #SurgicalCare through the successful implementation of the Surgical Safety Care Bundle. 'Be Thou My Vision – Ida Scudder of Vellore (Part 1)' was awarded the 'Silver Crown Award for Best Foreign Production' by the USA-based International Christian Visual Media Association, as well as the Jewel Award 2026 for 'Best Mid-Budget Documentary' by the UK-based Christian European Visual Media Association.
Produced in partnership with @ShepherdFilms_, the documentary traces Ida's journey, from the half-century preceding the establishment of the one-bed clinic where she began her practice, to the first two decades of the institution’s history. Spanning the years 1849 to 1922, it brings to life Ida’s pioneering contributions to women’s healthcare and medical education in India, highlighting her remarkable achievements and perseverance against all odds.

New Paediatric Speciality Centre, Fairfax-Quess Block inaugurated at the Ranipet Campus on 1st October 2026.
One of the first comprehensive higher-speciality paediatric hospitals in India, the 346-bedded centre will facilitate coordinated, multidisciplinary care for children with complex and challenging medical conditions.
Services in the near future will include #Paediatric:
Neurology, Oncology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Respiratory Medicine, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Emergency, Intensive Care, Special Needs Dentistry, and Developmental Paediatrics, with other comprehensive services to be offered at later stages.
The new centre was inaugurated by Mr. Prem Watsa (Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive of Fairfax Financial Holdings) along with Mr. Ajit Isaac (Founder & Chairman, Quess Corp Limited) in the presence of other dignitaries, donors and well-wishers who helped carry the vision of a dedicated centre for specialised paediatric healthcare at CMC Vellore into fruition.
Reflecting on the journey from his humble beginnings as a young immigrant in Canada to building a global financial enterprise, Mr. Watsa spoke about the enduring values, vision, enterprise, and commitment to giving back, that have shaped his journey and the growth of FFH. He commended the legacy of CMC’s founder, Dr. Ida S. Scudder, whose vision helped transform a one-bed clinic into one of the world's most respected medical institutions, and which continues to inspire the growth of the institution today.
Located within CMC’s 1,200-bedded super-speciality hospital at the Ranipet Campus, the new Paediatric Speciality Centre will also benefit from access to advanced diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical and support services.
The facility is planned to be commissioned in January 2027, with the transition of clinical departments taking place in phases during February and March 2027.

CMC Vellore’s First Heart Transplant: One Selfless Decision. One Donated Heart. One Life Saved.
We are pleased to announce the successful completion of our first heart transplant, led by the departments of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiology, at the CMC Vellore Ranipet Campus.
The recipient, a man in his late 30s with end-stage heart failure, received a donor heart on 24 July 2026 and was discharged 10 days back, following nearly three weeks of closely monitored post-transplant care and rehabilitation. The donor heart was that of a patient in CMC's own Neurotrauma ICU, who had sustained severe brain injury following a road traffic accident.
The successful transplant, the culmination of years of institutional commitment, preparation, and teamwork, marked a significant milestone in CMC's long-standing efforts to strengthen advanced cardiac and transplant care. It was achieved through a culture of multidisciplinary collaboration across the institution, built over several decades.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to the donor and donor family for their extraordinary gift of life, and to the recipient and his family for placing their trust in us.

Heart transplantation, widely regarded as the gold standard in the treatment of end-stage heart failure, is among the most highly specialised procedures in medicine and is performed by a limited number of centres in India. Though survival rates and functional status following a heart transplant are excellent today compared to a few years ago, its success, post ideal patient and donor selection, depends not only on surgical expertise, but also on meticulous coordination across numerous medical, nursing, technical and support services.
