20.10.20.
A date that is forever etched in our national conscience.
#EndSARS. #LekkiMassacre.
A sad night six years ago.
Their voices mattered so they used it.
Their young lives mattered, yet they laid them down.
Today, we remember the lives lost, the pain of survivors, and the young Nigerians whose sin against their government was to ask for safety, dignity and an end to police brutality.
They will always be remembered because their supreme sacrifices are unforgettable.
May our remembrance remain a demand for truth, justice and accountability.
We will not forget. 🇳🇬

Exactly, 6–years ago today, the Nigerian army and police killed at least 12 peaceful protesters at two locations in Lagos. The killings took place in Lekki and Alausa, where thousands were protesting police brutality as part of the #EndSARS movement.
Evidence gathered from eyewitnesses, video footage and hospital reports confirm that between 6:45pm and 9:00pm on Tuesday 20 October, the Nigerian military opened fire on thousands of people who were peacefully calling for good governance and an end to police brutality.
After the killings, Nigerian government hired online thugs to troll the victims: dead and alive:

This is the uncomfortable truth we must confront: Africa cannot afford an energy transition that simply replaces one form of extraction with another.
Renewable energy must not become a new scramble for African land, minerals, water and labour, while the value, technology and profits leave the continent.
The transition must be just, locally owned, value-adding and people-centred. Africa should not move from fossil-fuel dependency to green dependency.
Clean energy without justice is not a just transition.

Renewables deployed without community ownership just repeat the same old supply chain. We need models where value and decisions stay local. This is our collective work. What would that look like in your community?
Renewable energy shift may lead to neocolonialism, Nnimmo Bassey warns naturenews.africa/renewable-…
He faulted arguments that African countries should continue using fossil fuels because the West industrialised through them, likening it to continuing to take from a buffet “when the table itself is already on fire.”
Tracing modern extraction to slavery, plantation agriculture and colonial trade, Bassey asked what happens when land, water, forests and human bodies are turned into commodities.

“Reading the World” is a remarkable new documentary about Paulo Freire, the acclaimed Brazilian educator whose revolutionary approach to teaching connected literacy to critical thinking and democratic participation. “One of the most important points of his philosophy is that everyone has knowledge,” says Maria Luisa Mendonça, a consulting producer for the documentary.
