Why does the same crypto transaction cost a few dollars on one network and a few cents on another? It comes down to Layer 1 vs Layer 2.
We are breaking down what the two layers are and how they work together in our blog post.
nexo.com/blog/layer-1-vs-lay…
Layer 2 is a separate network built on top of Layer 1. It processes transactions off the main chain, bundles them into batches called rollups, and posts the results back to Layer 1 for final settlement.
Think of Layer 1 as the highway and Layer 2 as the express lanes. The cost of one batch is shared across thousands of users, which is why fees can drop to a few cents.

Bitcoin closed near $86,500 on September 21 and October 4, and a week later was more than 3% lower each time.
Both times, short-term holders sent unusually large volumes to exchanges at a profit, including 30,100 BTC on September 21, the largest in a year.
Two cases are a small sample, and transfers don't confirm sales. Still, the $86,000 area has twice drawn supply from recent buyers.
Bitcoin slipped below $80,000 for about two hours Thursday, and buyers defended the level for the third time in a week.
