Ever seen a many-plumed moth? Alucitidae are recognised by their modified wings consisting of 6 rigid spines on each forewing and hindwing. Each spine is lined with flexible bristles, creating a structure similar to that of a bird's feather. Look closer!

Just had another request for a "letter of medical necessity" land on my desk. That's where the insurance company, which already has every medical record it needs, creates up to an hour of work for me. I get to explain my reasoning for treatment using the same paperwork I already sent them. In the letter, I explain that their cherry-picked rationales are population-based and don't apply to every patient. I explain that they, the insurance company, don't have a license to practice medicine, and their sellout doctors don't have a license to practice in my state. Their protocols were meant to get us to a peer-to-peer, not to dictate medical care. They were asked to hold their subscribers' money in case they needed it, and that money is, in fact, not theirs. And I note that I understand the only reason for this unpaid, unfunded waste of time is to discourage me from writing the letter at all. If a lawyer wrote the masterpiece I produce, it would be billed out at thousands of dollars. Mine isn't paid at all. It costs me time with patients, who are already backed up because the new CMS rules make me see them twice for the same problem. And it costs me time with my family. whew.....

This. We don’t need G5 autobids for a handout. We need them because we can’t trust the committee to act in good faith. Based on a large sample size, about three G5 teams should make a 24 team playoff any given year, based on their own merit. Most people would be fine with that representation Someone has a lot of explaining to do if that number consistently drops to 1 with no rhyme or reason
This almost certainly will change, but I went back through every CFP ranking from 2014–2025 to see which G5 programs finished the regular season ranked in the Top 24, before conference championship weekend. Here's who theoretically would have qualified under a format with one guaranteed G6 bid and 23 at-large selections: 2014 (1 team) • Boise State (#22) AQ 2015 (3 teams) • Houston (#19) AQ • Temple (#22) • Navy (#23) 2016 (3 teams) • Western Michigan (#17) AQ • Navy (#19) • Houston (#24) 2017 (2 teams) • UCF (#14) AQ • Memphis (#20) 2018 (2 teams) • UCF (#8) AQ • Boise State (#22) 2019 (5 teams) • Memphis (#17) AQ • Boise State (#19) • Cincinnati (#20) • Appalachian State (#21) • Navy (#24) 2020 (5 teams) • Cincinnati (#9) AQ • Coastal Carolina (#12) • Louisiana (#19) • Tulsa (#23) • San José State (#24) 2021 (4 teams) • Cincinnati (#4) AQ • San Diego State (#19) • Houston (#21) • Louisiana (#24) 2022 (2 teams) • Tulane (#18) AQ • UCF (#22) 2023 (2 teams) • Tulane (#22) AQ • Liberty (#24) 2024 (3 teams) • Boise State (#10) AQ • UNLV (#20) • Army (#24) 2025 (2 teams) • Tulane (#20) AQ • North Texas (#24) I am fascinated to see how the P4 changes the way ranking and the CFP votes on the top 25 to ensure this doesn't happen.

Sources: The College Football Playoff is nearing a deal to expand to 24 teams, per sources. The new format will start in 2027 and is expected to come together in the near future, pending final approvals.

Every parent's heart stops for a moment at word of a school shooting. But these are not inevitable, at least at this rate. In some sense they reflect our policy choices about firearms. We tell kids to make wise choices; as a society, we should as well.

The mass shooting at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend is another horrifying act of violence that has struck our schools. Our schools should be places of safety, dedicated to education and community. No parent should be afraid to drop their kids off at school. But too often, they are now the site of horrible sadness and atrocities. My heart is with the victims, their families, and the entire community. Members of Congress owe it to every family affected by gun violence to pass meaningful reforms so this never happens again. I will not rest until every childhood is free from the scourge of gun violence.

We need to be better than this. Absolutely shouldn’t happen. Ever. But the lack of action is literally killing children. Thinking it can’t happen here is a fools errand. Do something @SenatorRisch @MikeCrapo @RepRussFulcher @CongMikeSimpson @IdahoGOP
A 5-year-old, 8-year-old, 11-year-old and one teacher were killed in the shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon on Thursday, authorities said in a press conference. Two other victims, a 7-year-old and a 54-year-old teacher were taken to a hospital with injuries. Officers responded to the scene three minutes after a person in a vehicle called 911 to report being shot at multiple times. Moments later, authorities reported that a community member shot and killed the suspect, after seeing them enter the school. cbsn.ws/4ypPyoH

This is heartbreaking. Kids are being killed in class. And it's been 13 years since the Sandy Hook shooting. It's way past time for Congress to pass gun safety reforms. My heart goes out to every family suffering with a loss tonight. Our kids deserve better.

The kids killed today in Bend were 5, 8 & 11. My own kids’ ages. Tonight I held them tight, & my heart aches for the parents who now can't hold theirs. Firearms = # 1 cause of death for US kids. If you own a gun, lock it up, ammo separate. Lawmakers: do more to keep kids safe.

Which doctors? Y’all got a bunch of them lining up to support government dictating patient care? The extreme position of the state is withering away our healthcare, yet you double down with this? Do you even care about the health of Idaho? #idpol
64 Idaho legislators have now signed on to a letter urging voters to reject Prop 1. They join doctors, nurses, churches, and countless men and women who believe in protecting unborn life. Prop 1 is too extreme for Idaho. Vote no now!

.@JamesTalarico: My decision to stay home for a week sent my opponent and his conspiracy theorists spiraling. I opened up social media and learned I had apparently dropped out of the race, had flown to a mental hospital in Ohio — that I had died. False claims got millions of views online — and this is an example of what I call the ‘rage economy.’ Billionaires who own these platforms get rich, we all get angry, and nobody’s life gets any better. Conspiracy theories don’t put food on the table, put gas in the tank, or improve our communities. I’m going to stay focused on the very real problems facing Texans.

Couldn’t agree with @ZekeEmanuel more - Two thirds of bankruptcies are caused by medical debt. Employee insurance trails only salaries for employer expenses. And Americans see few if any options on the table, beyond an ACA that’s lost most of its teeth, and Medicare for All…
Two-thirds of Americans now say they favor Medicare for All, according to a new @KFF poll. That's the highest level KFF has recorded since it started polling the idea in 2016, up from 53 percent in 2020. This tells me two things: Americans are fed up with rising health care costs, and no one is offering up a more realistic, more effective alternative. You can't beat something with nothing, and right now Medicare for All is close to the only something on the table. Health policy experts need to offer something else. What are your best ideas? (Mine are coming)

I think one of my biggest pet peeves in fantasy sports is when people don’t treat a trade offer as the start of a conversation. I’ll never understand the logic of rejecting a trade and not proposing a counter or reaching out to the other manager to talk through options
