As we mark the end of summer, Baltimore continues to make historic progress on public safety.
All across our city, our @BaltimorePolice officers and law enforcement partners, @BaltimoreMONSE staff, prosecutors, everyone involved in our community violence intervention ecosystem, and most importantly, everyday Baltimoreans, are showing up for one another in our shared effort to build a safer, healthier Charm City.
Our progress this summer is a testament to all of these individuals—and to the importance of the proven, data- and community-driven strategies that are delivering real results.
Did you know that the world’s number one olive oil company manufactures their products right here in Baltimore?
Today, I stopped by Pompeian for a behind the scenes look at how they’re bringing their products from Baltimore to your kitchen, creating jobs and opportunities for our residents, and proving that Baltimore is a place where businesses can thrive.
Indigenous people have always been a part of Baltimore's story. Observing this holiday is about recognizing the true history of our nation and honoring the contributions and traditions of those who have shaped America.
Yesterday, stopped by Dunbar with @BaltimoreFire Chief Wallace and our cadets to spend some time with our next generation of EMTs.
Through Dunbar's Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Pathway program, these @BaltCitySchools students are one step closer to pursuing their dreams after graduation.
This week, I walked alongside Khloe's family, friends, and the community in honoring her memory.
Khloe deserved the opportunity to grow up, to pursue her dreams, and to experience all that life had to offer.
We will continue to carry her memory as we work to ensure that no family has to feel this pain again.
If you or someone you know are in need of support during this time, I urge you to email [email protected] or call/text @BaltimoreMONSE Neighborhood Response Line at (410) 929-5488.
Statement from Mayor Brandon M. Scott and Commissioner Worley on the arrest of suspect in Khloe Ishway Murder.
What happened tonight is disgusting, heartbreaking, and unacceptable. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this tragedy. We will do everything in our power to hold those responsible accountable.
The continued progress we have seen since we launched this strategy in September 2022 did not happen by accident; it was the result of tireless, daily work by our @BaltimorePolice officers and law enforcement partners, Baltimore’s Group Violence Reduction Strategy, @BaltimoreMONSE staff, prosecutors, everyone involved in our community violence intervention ecosystem, and most importantly, the people of Baltimore.
Looking ahead, we cannot take these gains for granted. We have to continue to double and triple down on the strategies that are making our communities safer.
Last month, I sat down with @Gladwell to talk about the work happening right here in Baltimore to rethink public safety and drive down violence.
Thank you for highlighting our cities progress and the work that my brother and sister Mayors are doing across the country.
Can't wait for the full conversation to air. Stay tuned, Baltimore.

The City did NOT file for a third time an emergency motion to the Maryland Appellate Court seeking to block full access to city records.
Instead, the City filed a motion for protective order to make clear that restoring full access to the communications of all City employees would provide the OIG access to the City’s law department files associated with this case, an obvious and flagrant breach of the attorney client privilege.
The motion included an affidavit from Baltimore City Information Technology (BCIT) stating that by restoring access to the OIG, the office can access the files and communications for this case while the appeal is pending, and there is no way to sequester the files, emails, communications and other work product of the City related to this case while giving the OIG full access to all City employees email communications, including those of City attorneys. The motion also noted that the OIG has accessed law department files in the past and that the OIG has maintained publicly that she believes she has a right to do so.
LATEST BREAKING: Mayor Scott files a THIRD appeal to the MD Appellate Court to block full records access to Inspector General Isabel Cumming. (The first 2 appeals were denied.)
STILL UNANSWERED: what access to what records is the IG now getting? tinyurl.com/2f648tb6
Today, we stood at our Safe Streets Belvedere site to celebrate a major milestone.
Not once, but twice, this site has gone over 365 days without a homicide (379 to be exact).
While one life is still one to many, 379 days without a homicide is a testament to what is possible when we put people closest to the pain in our communities at the heart of our solutions to public safety.
This is progress BY Baltimore, FOR Baltimore.
And together, we’re going to make 365 days without a homicide the NORM in every community and on every block.
The OIG just asked the court to hold the City in contempt for “failure to comply” with the court’s order. As we have said all along, we will always follow the law. But let’s be clear about what’s happening here. This is showmanship, not integrity.
Step 1 [Friday 11:15 AM] – FOX45 asks me, before the Appellate Court even rules, if I’m worried about being held in contempt. I say we’ll follow the court. But notably, they’ve already thought about the possibility.
Step 2 [Friday 5:49 PM] – After business hours, the appellate court denied our stay and we released a statement saying we’d obviously comply with their order.
Step 3 [Monday, 8:34 AM] – Under my direction, BCIT contacts the OIG to facilitate restoring access in order to follow the court order – four minutes after the City Hall work hours begin the next business day.
Step 4 [Monday, 12:30 PM] – I publicly respond, letting FOX45 know that we are in the process of restoring access IMMEDIATELY.
Step 5 [Monday, 1:29 PM] – The OIG files an 8 page Petition for Contempt. AFTER, their team has had several exchanges with BCIT to restore access.
Step 6 [Monday, 3:10 PM] – The OIG says they’re the ones who need an extra day to complete their part.
The timing matters. The coordination with politically-motivated media outlets matters. And the truth – that this has always been about causing a stir, not about protecting transparency or the law – matters.
Strong words in @isabel_cumming's request that the @MayorBMScott administration be held in contempt. tinyurl.com/7xv3aws8 "This is not a case of negligence, inadvertence, or good faith incapacity; the City has deliberately withheld access."

The OIG says it gave City Hall until 1 p.m. Monday to restore access.
OIG filing alleges City missed that deadline, calls the noncompliance “willful,” and asks Judge White to order the City to explain why it should not be held in contempt.

As the Jewish holiday of Sukkot begins tonight, I want to wish all of Baltimore’s Jewish community a joyful and peaceful Sukkot. Chag Sameach!
You cannot be the best version of yourself if you are not the best you, mentally or physically.
Grateful to be in the room for these @TheBlackCaucus conversations. Until next year, CBC!
Yesterday, I was joined by Councilman Jermaine Jones, my office of @lgbtbaltcity, and @BaltimoreMONSE to remind our neighbors in Barclay that we will not allow any act of violence to be seen as normal.
As I always say, one life lost to violence is one too many and we are going to continue doing the work to build a safer Baltimore, together.
Baltimore, it’s game day.
This is your reminder, that there will be significant traffic downtown.
To make sure that you have a smooth game day, follow @BmoreCityDOT or visit: baltimorecity.gov/transporta…
