Here is a look inside Glenn Fleishman's book, That One Matt Bors Comic, which is headed to the printer--and I'm headed across the country next month to sign a ton of stuff in a warehouse. kickstarter.com/projects/gle…

Pest control guys turned out to be huge Troma fans--that scans--and left my home with a nice stack of signed comics. I fear for the rodents; me and the boys are super tight now.

One thing I think about is how there are zero creator costs for North American publishers to bring this stuff over to market, only translation costs. Whereas making a new 10-volume, 2,000+ page comic would take a decade or labor, advances, and marketing. Something to consider.
29 shelves of Manga... The american comic book industry has not recovered from this. Ever.

Plenty of great manga, it's no hate. But people tend to talk about this stuff as if it is mere consumer taste. The (much larger) Japanese market subsidizes the creation of all these comics and North American publishers ad retailers benefit greatly from that.

Bringing all that up because the much touted "$2 billion North American comics market" includes the behemoth DC/Marvel backlist and the juggernaut of translated manga. New work (for adults) is harder to launch, fund, and endure to Shelf Hog Level.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

I think being able to video chat with a cute woman who never gets tired of you is going to be a huge disaster for our already loser-based society

Ari solves a Rubik's cube while Griffin coaches him from what it sees in his hands, and when he goes quiet to think, it waits. Its perception is always on, so it acts without being asked. Note: this actually blew our minds seeing happen live.

Julia Jacklin is four for four in my book. You're all out here on Phoebe Bridgers as your main dreary lovelorn white woman--give Julia a spin. She's majorly depressed in beautiful ways.

My upcoming series, The Toxic Avenger vs. The Noxious Offender, is being denounced as offensive propaganda "that ruins the whole medium and art form" from a guy who hasn't read a single page of the story. Pick up issue #1 on October 7! bleedingfool.com/blogs/the-t…
