On this day in 1944, US Navy began accepting black women to serve. Harriet Ida Pickens and Ensign Frances Wills were the first two Black officers to be commissioned into the Women’s Reserve.
On October 19th, 1944, the U.S. Navy began admitting black women to serve as administrative officers in the Women's Reserve of the U.S. Navy,better known as WAVES( Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service). Despite this groundbreaking order, Black women remained largely unrepresented in the naval branch.
Of the more than 80,000 women serving during World War II, only 72 were black.
The U.S. military's history of racial segregation formally came to an end on July 26, 1948, when President Harry S. Truman signed Executive Order 9981, the legislation that integrated all branches of the U.S. armed forces.
On December 26, 1944 Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Harriet Ida Pickens, and Ensign Frances Wills were commissioned as the first African-American WAVES.

An asylum seeker from Peru has decribed forced labor and retaliation going on inside Delaney Hall in New Jersey, which is a private, for-profit ICE facility operated by GEO Group.
Martin Soto said people who were detained are being paid as little as $1 per day for difficult labor, facing 12-hour shifts, and being threatened with solitary confinement, loss of family visitation privileges, or lockouts if they refused to work.
Soto was arrested by ICE in February while shopping for diapers for his child and he was released a few weeks ago after 8 months in detention. He helped organize a hunger strike and labor strike while being held.
The New Jersey Department of Labor has certified Soto's U visa application in connection with investigations into labor exploitation. A U visa is reserved for non-citizen victims of qualifying crimes who assist law enforcement in investigating criminal activity.
Concentration camps coercing labor from immigrants through threats of solitary confinement, loss of visitation, or lockouts is some Nazi shit. These corporations like GEO Group prioritize corporate profits over basic human rights.
If this is what they're doing to immigrants today, it's only a matter of time before these monsters bribe our politicians to throw me and you in these concentration camps too just to make a buck.
This gentleman Martin Soto is extremely brave for organizing strikes and coming forward about what's going on. He is more American than all of these gestapo thugs combined.

I am running out of words for the sheer inhumanity of these men. And the female politician laughing behind him should be ashamed. But that would require a conscience.
Around 99% of Somali women and girls have undergone #FGM, yet politicians openly defend this horrific abuse.
And what do we do? Keep pouring billions into Somalia while pretending it is building a functioning state.
Why are British taxpayers funding institutions whose politicians show such contempt for little girls?
