ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
LVMPD officers responded to a serious wrong-way collision near Sahara Avenue and Tenaya Way. Two people were transported to the hospital, and both drivers are in critical condition. The cause of the collision is unknown at this time and remains under investigation.
In just the past couple of weeks, we’ve lost six lives on our roadways. Every life lost is a family forever changed. We cannot keep seeing these tragedies happen.
If you’re impaired, DON’T DRIVE. If you feel unwell behind the wheel, pull over safely and seek medical help. Never put your life or someone else’s at risk.
Your choices behind the wheel have consequences. Do your part. Drive safely. Help us stop these preventable tragedies before another life is lost.

💜 MY VOICE IS MY POWER 💜
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
For survivor Kristian, finding her voice was a powerful step toward reclaiming her life. Her message is one worth hearing again: “My voice is my power.”
Domestic violence often follows a cycle of broken promises and repeated harm. Kristian's courage reminds us of the importance of recognizing the warning signs, seeking support, and knowing that help is available.
You are not alone. You deserve to feel safe. Your voice matters.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is committed to supporting survivors through our Southern Nevada Family Justice Center and LVMPD Victim Services Unit.
💜 If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, confidential support and resources are available.

BEST OF THE BADGE GALA 2026
On Saturday, October 10, the @LVMPDFoundation hosted its 13th Annual Best of the Badge Gala, recognizing the dedicated men and women of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department who have gone above and beyond in the line of duty.
These officers exemplify courage, selflessness, and a commitment to protecting our community. From saving lives to putting themselves in harm’s way, their actions reflect the very best of our profession. Sheriff Kevin McMahill proudly presented each officer with their award, recognizing their extraordinary acts of bravery, service, and dedication to the Las Vegas community.
Among this year’s honorees was fallen Officer Austin Zade Abdelnabi, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on August 4, 2026. His recognition serves as a lasting reminder of the courage, dedication, and sacrifice embodied by those who serve.
Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients! Thank you for your courage, your sacrifice, and your commitment to serving and protecting our community.
SIX LIVES LOST. ONE DEVASTATING WEEK.
Six more lives were lost on our roads this week. Six. An unbelievable number, and one of our highest weekly totals since January.
Behind every number is a person, a family, and a community forever changed. These tragedies are a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly one moment on the road can change lives forever.
As you travel throughout the valley, remember that your decisions behind the wheel affect more than just you. Every trip is an opportunity to help prevent another tragedy.

End of Watch: Police Officer Truong Thai
October 13, 2022
Today we honor Officer Truong Thai, who proudly served with the LVMPD for over 23 years. Thai joined Metro in 1999, and dedicated most of his career to patrol in the Northwest and Northeast Area Commands. He also served in Financial Crimes and the Training Section. Colleagues remember him as a hardworking officer who led by example and served for all the right reasons.
Outside of the badge, Thai loved his daughter Jada, volleyball, and time on the water. On October 13, 2022, Thai was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance. His loss is deeply felt, but his legacy lives on in every officer he helped shape.
RAINY WEATHER DIDN’T DAMPEN OUR DUI ENFORCEMENT
Despite wet roads and rainy conditions from Rachel, LVMPD officers and our law enforcement partners conducted a DUI Blitz over the weekend to help keep impaired drivers off the road.
The enforcement effort resulted in:
314 traffic stops
232 citations
24 DUI arrests
3 other arrests
1 recovered firearm
27 vehicles towed
Thank you to our patrol officers, LVMPD Traffic, Nevada State Police, Henderson Police Department, phlebotomists, and dispatchers who helped make this operation a success.
Driving is a privilege, not a right.
There are too many safe options available. Never drive impaired.
End of Watch: Police Officer Marc A. Kahre
October 11, 1988
Today, we honor the memory of Officer Marc Alan Kahre. Officer Kahre began his career with LVMPD as a Cadet in 1973, and became a commissioned officer in 1975. On October 11, 1988, while serving on patrol, Kahre was tragically killed in the line of duty after confronting a violent suspect. He was just 34 years old.
We remember his courage, service, and sacrifice. He will never be forgotten.
HONORING A FALLEN HERO
Today, we unveiled Officer Austin Zade Abdelnabi’s portrait on the Wall of Honor at LVMPD Headquarters, honoring his life, his service, and the ultimate sacrifice he made for the Las Vegas community on August 4, 2026.
Officer Abdelnabi's wife, Sage, and his family joined us for this moment as we added his portrait to a place reserved for those whose service and sacrifice will forever be part of our department’s history. Sheriff Kevin McMahill made a promise to Officer Abdelnabi’s family that we will never forget him. That promise is one we carry with us every day.
These portraits ensure that future generations of LVMPD employees and visitors will know his name and remember the officer who gave everything in service to others.
To Sage and the Abdelnabi family, we stand with you, the community stands with you, and we will never forget.
CELEBRATING ACHIEVEMENT!
Today, we gathered at LVMPD Headquarters for our Pins & Promotions Ceremony to celebrate the incredible men and women who serve our community. Dozens were recognized for their years of service, including Assistant Sheriff Fred Haas who marked 25 years with the department.
Congratulations, and thank you for your continued dedication!
End of Watch: Police Sergeant Paul DeWeert
October 8, 1967
Today, we honor the memory of Sergeant Paul DeWeert, a dedicated member of the Las Vegas Police Department who served our community for 20 years.
Known by his fellow officers as “Pappy,” Sergeant DeWeert joined the department in January 1948. He was respected for his leadership, experience, and commitment to public safety. Tragically, Sergeant DeWeert was shot and killed by a drunk ex-convict at a dark intersection in North Las Vegas. He was unarmed at the time of the encounter. He was 60 years old.
Sergeant DeWeert's sacrifice and service will never be forgotten.
End of Watch: Police Officer Milburn Beitel III
October 8, 2009
Today, we remember Officer Milburn “Milli” Wilbur Beitel III, who joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on September 30, 2003, after proudly serving four years in the United States Marine Corps. Known to many as “Milli,” he was a devoted public servant who exemplified commitment to both his country and his community.
On the night of October 7, 2009, while responding to a call for service, Beitel swerved to avoid a citizen’s vehicle. His patrol car overturned, and he was ejected in the crash. Despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, he passed away from his injuries on October 8, 2009. He was just 30 years old.
Officer Beitel’s service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who served beside him and the community he protected.
Town Square was the place to be for National Night Out!
Enterprise, South Central, and Convention Center Area Commands brought the community together for an evening filled with fun, hands-on experiences, and plenty of opportunities to connect with LVMPD.
Community members got to have their fingerprints taken by our CSI unit, get handcuffed by our Detention Services Division, try out a driving simulator, and much more.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with the people we serve!
