.@KTmBoyle: “Palantir is known in the valley as a Founder mint.” “I don’t think we would be sitting here without Palantir.” “People go there and work for 5, 6, 7 years and come out and build a really difficult company because they’ve learned so much. That shows it’s a successful company. It’s the spirit of the leadership there.” “I was just taking a picture of the sponsors list… About 5 or 6 years ago, there was one little startup called Palantir on it. Anduril had a tiny little name at the bottom. Now I counted 50 venture backed startups, with Palantir being the biggest sponsor.” “These companies are riding the wake. That’s the gift that SpaceX and Palantir and Anduril have given us.” Via @CNBC @MorganLBrennan

The Production Principle will change your life. Technology dominates our life. Everywhere you turn there is a television, a computer, and a mobile phone. In modern society, it is hard to do anything without being inundated with algorithms and screens. Many people are worried about the effect these new technologies will have on us over the long-run. Most parents try not to give their children computers or phones. Others do their best to limit their screen time. And adults are no better off. There is a growing body of research that suggests people are becoming addicted to their electronic devices at an unprecedented rate. But the problem with shutting off these devices and avoiding them all together is you will lose access to information and productivity. It is undeniable how helpful computers, phones, and other devices can be for anyone with curiosity and capacity for work. So what is the balance? How do you get the benefit of technology devices without being imprisoned by their negative side-effects? Venture capitalist @KTmBoyle has the best answer — she calls it The Production Principle. Here is how Katherine describes the principle: "My rule for tech is simple, one I call The Production Principle: “Produce more than you consume.” It’s easy to measure and remember. And it’s the rule guiding tech usage in our house for everyone, child or adult. If kids are sitting on their phones scrolling social media and consuming memes and slop without your knowledge, that’s not good and probably not very healthy. But if they’re making things, coding, interacting with videos that teach them to build things online and off, that’s generally a positive thing, especially if you’re engaged in these activities with them as a parent. Computers and screens govern so many fields today. By the time my children are teenagers, I imagine screens and code will govern much, much more of the world around us. I don’t plan to hide this from them because I don’t want them to be afraid of the modern world, or to sense that they can’t control their relationship to it. Instilling the Production Principle early changes their relationship with technology. It becomes theirs to master, not a nebulous thing to fear." This principle is great because it focuses on what you are doing with technology, rather than forcing technology to be classified in a binary good or bad designation. The truth is technology can be both. It really depends on how you use it, which is why The Production Principle forces you to be productive or to put down your device. Once I started implementing The Production Principle, my screen time decreased and my productivity increased. Double win. Now I try my best to use technology for what it was originally intended…being more efficient and productive. And it never hurts to have accountability partners. I have relied on @polinapompliano to constantly ask me, “Are you being productive or are you wasting time?” whenever I am on my phone. I do the same thing with her. Together we have done a great job of overcoming the perils of technology, while leveraging the great advancements to our advantage. Stay vigilant about how you use devices moving forward. The Production Principle works. This is an excerpt from my new book, How To Live An Extraordinary Life Volume 2. You can buy a copy of the book here: amazon.com/How-Live-Extraord…

“Kind of rah-rah, smoking, go to church on Sunday, maybe a bit louder, working typically on hardware rather than software.” An Irishman’s answer to “What is American Dynamism?” 🇺🇸 🇮🇪
Will O'Brien of @UlyssesInc on why today's young founders are more Steve Jobs than Jeff Bezos: "The founders look very different, right? It's like the kind of rah-rah, smoking, go to church on Sunday, maybe a bit louder, working typically on hardware rather than software." "It's like a different motivation. There is seemingly more of a kind of a spiritual reason to why people start their businesses." "I often think of there being head and heart type founders, where Jeff Bezos is the canonical head-based founder... 'What would be the best thing to sell on the internet? Oh, books are good because you can move them easily.'" "Steve Jobs being the canonical heart-based founder, the bicycle for the mind, the hippie on acid... And I think this era of founders are way more oriented on the heart-based." "A lot of us were very, I think, impacted by something like COVID. A lot of us are typically in our later 20s now, but were in college or something like that when it happened. It kind of made me feel a little bit cheated." "We were forced to be in the digital world, so we feel cause to impact the physical world... Or maybe we're just more of a product of the times that we're in." @Willob on Cheeky Pint

First responders dedicate their lives to serving our communities. @sharp_usa is about serving them. It started with a small team of veterans talking with first responders and connecting over some of the hardest parts of the job. It transformed into one-on-one coaching for first responders that help them with everything from stress regulation, to sleep, to leading their teams. The result is a marketplace that connects first responders with coaches from law enforcement, fire, and military backgrounds that support and train them throughout their demanding careers. Today, we’re excited to announce an $18M Series A led by Hidden Variable with participation from @a16z, @commonwealvc, Wolfson Group, @FjLabs, and the @FordFoundation. The funding helps us bring Sharp to the millions of first responders and tens of thousands of first responder agencies across America. We’re grateful to the chiefs who’ve partnered with us, the members who’ve trusted us, and the coaches who’ve continued to do the work. Axios broke the news this morning. More on our blog. .@HadrianInc , @LockheedMartin & @GMDefense teamed up today to hyperscale critical munitions production alongside @USDASDuffey at Lockheed’s fantastic facility in Texas - a new chapter in the Arsenal of Freedom. Lockheed and Hadrian signed a first of its kind, 7 year manufacturing-as-a-service agreement, with a whole Hadrian factory inside Lockheeds campus launching in January.
We’re expanding our partnership with @LockheedMartin. Under a new seven-year agreement, we’ll bring Hadrian’s advanced manufacturing capabilities directly into Lockheed Martin’s Grand Prairie facility to help scale production across critical missile programs. 🇺🇸
