I was asked by the academic publisher Elsevier if I could review a 15-page proposal for a book on AI and provide feedback by answering 23 questions. For this work, they offered $100 (£75). It’s unsurprising that Elsevier’s parent company has annual profits of over £1,000 million.

The NHS counts the savings. Who counts the cost to Nigeria, Ghana and Pakistan?
Their health systems train doctors whom Britain later employs. The estimated NHS saving is £14 billion; the countries that paid for training receive no reimbursement.

London is facing a dark blizzard of disinformation, driven by extremist groups and hostile state actors. We can't ignore the damage it’s causing to our communities, safety and trust.
It’s why London’s leading the way in tackling this threat, so I welcome the Government's announcement of a National Centre for Information Defence.

🚀 We’ve launched the first round of our Strategic Infrastructure Partnerships (SIPs), a new form of multi-year funding to tackle pressing health and care challenges.
On our #NIHR20 year, we’re building on 20 years of our infrastructure. These SIPs will bring together expertise, capabilities and resources across NIHR infrastructure and the wider health and care system to tackle challenges that no single organisation, discipline or scheme can solve alone.
This first round will support the shift from hospital to community-based care, with up to £45m available.
As our CEO, Professor Lucy Chappell said: “As the NIHR celebrates 20 years, it is looking for bold ideas and ambitious teams to lead these new, transformational partnerships. Our research infrastructure is full of passionate experts, with boundless experience. We want them to unite, combining their strengths with industry, local government, charities and many other partners, to accelerate exciting innovations and research to deliver real, lasting impact for patients across the country, and to drive economic growth.”

ALT An informational graphic on a cream background. At the top is a photo framed by red geometric shapes, showing four colleagues in discussion around a wooden meeting table. A man in a red jumper sits at an open laptop, while a woman in a leopard-print top sits next to him. Two other colleagues are seen from the back, engaging in the conversation. Below the image, dark blue text reads, "News" over a small red underline, followed by the large headline: "NIHR to fund major partnerships to tackle the nation's biggest health and care challenges." At the bottom right is a dark blue and red logo reading "20 Years."
