A great reminder of why we cannot stay silent when influential people endorse dehumanizing theories or platform hate (e.g., the Dark Enlightenment, Dugin, Surkov, etc.). History proves you cannot feign innocence when they follow through on their horrifying logic

Your observation touches upon a crucial aspect of human psychology: the malleability of moral standards under certain conditions. Indeed, the human capacity to shift moral stands, sometimes under the influence of external pressures like state policy, propaganda, or societal norms, is a significant phenomenon. The Nazi regime adeptly manipulated these norms through the systematic dehumanization of certain groups, portraying them as lesser or subhuman. This facilitated a disturbing shift in societal moral values, making previously unthinkable acts seem justifiable or necessary. The state's role in this transformation was pivotal, as it not only propagated these ideas but also codified them into laws and regulations, thus normalizing and legalizing evil acts. Individuals found themselves in an environment where atrocious acts were not only legal but often rewarded, further entrenching these behaviors. This process underscores the dangerous power of dehumanization and the role of authoritative structures in shaping moral norms. It serves as a reminder of the need for constant vigilance and critical thinking in any society to prevent the erosion of universal human rights. Because there are situations when definitions of good and bad can be shifted, eroded, and manipulated. You can also say that many believed in what they were doing, but at some point they also got the understanding that the world around them - that begins to win the war - does not share this view and will hold them accountable of the crimes they perpetrated.

Mark Carney on Elon Musk throttling Starlink: "I search for the right adjective to describe whoever took this decision or group of people took this decision against a country that is literally fighting for the lives of the citizens against naked aggression."

Something many still won't acknowledge : the USSR was an empire. A colonial empire.

Zelensky: My grandfather went through World War II from start to finish. He came from a family where there were several brothers, and all of them were killed by the Nazis. I have very few relatives on both sides of my family. Many relatives were killed by the fascists. That's why it always sounded so bizarre when Russia accused Ukraine of supposedly having Nazis. It's bizarre and completely wild.

⚡️ "I desperately want justice," Zelenskyy warned that without accountability and a just peace, the desire for revenge among victims could trigger ongoing military risks.

"My only dream is to end this war. I desperately want justice." Asked whether he has been irreversibly changed by the war, President Zelenskyy says: "You can't bring it back. It's just, it's two different worlds." He says so many people had their hearts ripped out, and they must be given at least some trial and some justice: "You can't just leave it, because that hole inside them, it won't heal, and there will be revenge." @ZelenskyyUa

Diplomatic submission to an aggressor does not bring peace. A deal with an aggressor does not bring peace. Appeasement does not bring peace. Rewarding aggression only ensures that the war will continue.

The breaking up Europe narrative isn’t the entire story given the loud euro-nationalist and fascist overtones. It’s a slow revenge on US-led pluralism by nationalists who hate America as the most successful pluralist democracy on earth. Does Trump hate pluralism and democracy?

Some Government of Canada websites have been temporarily taken offline as a precaution to protect government systems and Canadians' information, following guidance from the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security. This is in response to a vulnerability identified in PHP, software used by websites around the world. This is a global issue, and other governments and organizations are also taking protective measures. If your organization uses PHP, apply the latest security updates as soon as possible and follow @cybercentre_ca for updates. We take this situation extremely seriously. Thank you to the cyber security teams working to protect the services Canadians rely on. Affected websites will be restored once patches are applied.

It is horrifying. Are we supposed to maintain a veneer of civility? Of disbelief? Of fear? It is difficult to grasp the level of absurdity which puts everyone, including the future of life on this planet, at risk.
*Spoiler alert for anyone who hasn’t yet read a history book.* Rewarding aggression does not avert a world war. In fact, it makes everything so much worse.
