Democratic Sen. Elissa Slotkin says she wants to deter young people from working for Donald Trump. Down this road lies more bitterness and political dysfunction. wsj.com/opinion/elissa-slotk… via @WSJopinion

The war is about defending Ukraine's independence in its existential fight against Putin's ruthless invasion, which seeks to install a puppet regime in Kyiv.
Rubio: The war in Ukraine is about one region, Donetsk. Russia occupies all but about 11% of it. Ukraine's line there is its last defensible one: beyond it, a straight shot into Kyiv. Russia demands all of Donetsk, including that line, as its definition of victory. 1/

Recent reports on Starshield satellite communication disruptions in Ukraine raise serious concerns and must be investigated.   I joined @SenatorShaheen, @SenThomTillis, and six of our Senate colleagues in calling for the @DeptofWar Inspector General to determine what happened with this critical capability and protect American personnel. It remains in our national interest to help Ukraine defend itself from Putin’s aggression.

Petraeus: Ukraine is killed and wounded 46,000 in the past month alone, while Russia recruits a little over 30,000. When Starlink was completely shut down, Ukrainian front-line commanders texted me that they were losing control of their formations. 1/

Fact 1: President Trump wants Ukraine to stop attacking Russian petroleum infrastructure. Fact 2: President Zelenskyy wants access to U.S. targeting assistance to stop Russian missiles from being launched at Ukrainian civilians from inside Russia. Fact 3: President Zelenskyy has agreed not to hit Russian petroleum in exchange for this targeting assistance. Fact 4: President Trump can lower prices at the pump today by simply agreeing to this deal! MR. PRESIDENT, PLEASE TAKE THIS WIN!

We’ve had lots of time already to assess the impact of sanctions. Putin will read this delay as a reprieve on his licence to kill themoscowtimes.com/2026/10/1…

WATCH: @SenMcCormickPA says he "would not be in favor of giving a reprieve on sanctions," adding that the U.S. needs to keep the pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Ukraine is the victim, Russia the aggressor. President Trump has put the U.S. on the wrong side of history. Shameful.
“Ukraine is fighting for its survival. Starshield, a vital lifeline, has been slowed, while Putin continues to bombard Ukrainian cities with ballistic missiles. Congress was clear: this is no time to ease the pressure on Putin. It is time to increase it.” -@SenatorShaheen

Salena zito has written the best explanation of the current political situation I have read. Her parallel between the extraordinary changes of the Gilded Age and our period of transition is brilliant and anyone interested in studying what is going on should read it nam11.safelinks.protection.o…

The United States cannot let the CCP dictate the terms of technology, privacy, commerce, and communications. America needs to work with its allies and partners to win the AI race and cement the free world's leadership in the global economy, @SenMcCormickPA emphasizes.

My view of the correct U.S. grand strategy has not changed since the 1980s: our interests lie in siding with our allies & friends against our enemies. We can argue about the hows & how-fars, but that should remain True North, whether we're talking about Europe, Asia, Latin America, or the Middle East.

Helping Putin in Ukraine is reckless. He would not stop with Ukraine and our NATO allies would be next. Putin is fanatically committed to restoring Russia’s glory days, calling the collapse of the Soviet Union “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century” and claiming Russia was "robbed" in the breakup.

GOP Rep. McCaul after Trump waives the Graham bill’s Russia sanctions “Time and again, we have seen how Putin responds to American concessions: with contempt for the United States and increased violence against innocent Ukrainians…I urge the president to reverse course, use these sanctions, and return to the time-tested principle that lasting peace is secured through strength — not accommodation.”
When President Trump welcomed Putin onto American soil for peace talks, Putin responded less than two weeks later with a massive bombardment of Kyiv that killed more than 20 civilians. When President Trump pressured Ukraine to make territorial concessions to Russia, Putin turned around and provided Iran with intelligence to help target American servicemembers. And when President Trump secured his diesel deal with Putin, the Kremlin responded by continuing to strike Ukraine’s energy infrastructure — despite the president’s calls for an energy ceasefire. Just last week, Russian forces also bombed buses full of innocent civilians, killing more than 30 people, in violation of international law. Time and again, we have seen how Putin responds to American concessions: with contempt for the United States and increased violence against innocent Ukrainians. Lindsey Graham understood this dynamic. That's why he and I spent his final years fighting to give the president the tools to put maximum pressure on Putin and bring him to the negotiating table. I urge the president to reverse course, use these sanctions, and return to the time-tested principle that lasting peace is secured through strength — not accommodation.
