I’ll never forget the powerful conversations my wife and I had with our daughters about “The Hate U Give,” a young adult novel by Angie Thomas that touches on racism and police violence. This is one of many titles by authors from underrepresented backgrounds celebrated during #BannedBooksWeek. Shielding students from content that’s difficult or uncomfortable robs them of so many opportunities for learning and growth.
Reading books is a practice in humanity. Providing access to a wide range of books, by a wide range of authors, is a practice in democracy. This #BannedBooksWeek, let’s reflect on the moments when reading sparked something in us, and share some meaningful titles with the students and young people in our lives.

Supporting adult learners means supporting them beyond academics. Having resources like child care on campus can be what makes or breaks a student from applying to college. SUNY campuses across the state work to ensure they have these services to help students thrive.

When students have the resources they need to navigate life's challenges, they can focus on earning their degree and building their future.

Some of the best lessons happen outside the classroom. I'm proud to spotlight two student interns who are building skills, gaining confidence, and preparing for what's next. Their experiences show exactly why SUNY prioritizes paid internships, ensuring more students can access meaningful hands-on learning opportunities.
