Working alone in the studio and playing both guitars and drums, Jimi Hendrix recorded "New Rising Sun" during an October 23, 1968 session at Hollywood's TTG Studios. Previously unreleased in an unedited form, this extended solo is featured on the WEST COAST SEATTLE BOY box set.
By early 1967, The Jimi Hendrix Experience had successfully made their foray into the London music scene. “Hey Joe” was on the charts and work was well underway on their forthcoming single “Purple Haze.” Hendrix described the group’s approach to music as “this is more like a free-style thing. We know what song we’re gonna play, and what key it’s in, and the chord sequences, and we just take it from there... Everybody’s doing pretty cool.”
In this classic interview from 1967 conducted by Steve Barker, Hendrix compares the British and US music scenes and what some of The Experience’s recordings will entail. Read the full interview now at bit.ly/45REuV5
