Demonstrating Shimla’s Urban Water and Sewerage Reforms | Knowledge Exchange at SJPNL Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL) hosted a Knowledge Exchange Programme from 6–8 October 2026, bringing together representatives from utilities and institutions across Bhutan, Nepal, Punjab, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttarakhand to learn from Shimla’s experience in transforming urban water supply and sewerage services. The knowledge exchange program provided a platform to showcase SJPNL’s reform journey, institutional processes, operational practices, and initiatives aimed at improving service delivery, operational efficiency, and sustainability. It enabled participating utilities to exchange experiences and explore practices that could inform improvements in their respective contexts. The engagement also led to the progress review under the 11th World Bank Support Mission for the World Bank-supported Program-for-Results (PforR) initiative, which reviewed programme implementation, key reforms, and progress towards agreed outcomes. As the Programme Management Unit (PMU), IPE Global Limited, in collaboration with SJPNL, continues to provide technical, strategic, and programme management support towards implementation, institutional strengthening, and achievement of programme objectives. These engagements reflect the progress made by SJPNL in advancing urban water and sewerage reforms and reinforce the importance of knowledge exchange in enabling peer learning and strengthening water utility management. #UrbanWaterManagement #WaterAndSanitation #WaterSecurity #UrbanDevelopment #SewerageReforms #KnowledgeExchange #InstitutionalStrengthening #SustainableDevelopment #WorldBank #IPEGlobal

#InTheMedia India’s Drought Crisis: When Extreme Rainfall and Prolonged Dry Spells Collide @Abinash0294, Director and Global Sector Head - Climate Change & Sustainability at IPE Global, is featured in @IndiaToday's Upfront feature, “The Drought Deficit,” by Sonal Khetarpal, which examines how erratic monsoon patterns, El Niño and prolonged dry spells are deepening agricultural distress across India, highlighting the urgent need to shift from reactive drought relief to proactive climate preparedness. Abinash highlights how drought risks are compounded by human-induced pressures, including excessive urbanisation, groundwater extraction and inadequate groundwater recharge. His perspective underscores a critical climate challenge: the issue is not simply how much rain India receives, but how rainfall is distributed, how water is managed and how effectively communities prepare for prolonged dry spells. IPE Global’s research reinforces this growing concern. The State of Extreme Events study, developed with Esri India, found that: Over 85% of Indian districts are classified as extreme climate hotspots. Drought frequency has doubled, with southern, western, and central India increasingly exposed to agricultural and meteorological droughts. 45% of Indian districts are experiencing a shift between flood and drought conditions, highlighting the growing complexity of climate risks. Further, IPE Global reports a 15-fold increase in extreme heatwave days over three decades, rising to a 19-fold increase in the last decade alone. It also projects that 8 out of 10 districts in India could experience multiple instances of incessant and erratic rainfall by 2030. Together, these findings underscore the urgency of strengthening climate-risk assessment, early-warning systems, water-resource management and anticipatory planning. Translating climate intelligence into timely, actionable decisions for governments, farmers and communities will be essential to safeguarding livelihoods and building resilience against increasingly unpredictable weather extremes. IPE Global is pleased to have supported the Government of Assam in developing its Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Strategy, launched by Smt. Ajanta Neog, Hon’ble Minister for Women & Child Development and Tourism, on October 12, 2026, to improve maternal and child nutrition across the state. The strategy recognises that while maternity benefit schemes such as PMMVY provide important financial assistance, improving maternal nutrition requires more than cash transfers alone. Women and families need the knowledge and guidance to make informed nutrition choices and use these benefits effectively. Equally important is an enabling environment where families and communities support women in putting these choices into practice, backed by accessible and responsive services. Going forward, the focus will be on building frontline capacity to operationalise the SBC strategy, alongside regular progress reviews by a State-Level Committee to guide and strengthen implementation over the next five years. #MaternalNutrition #ChildNutrition #NutritionForAll #SocialAndBehaviourChange #SBCStrategy #PMMVY #WomenAndChildDevelopment #BehaviourChange #CommunityEngagement #MaternalAndChildHealth

"Rajasthan Puts Girls’ Vocational Education in the Spotlight with a Dedicated Mascot” On the International Day of the Girl Child, Dr. Rashmi Sharma (IAS), State Project Director and Commissioner, Rajasthan Council of School Education (RCSE), Government of Rajasthan, launched a dedicated vocational education mascot in partnership with IPE Global. This initiative marks an important step towards positioning vocational education not merely as a school programme, but as a strategic pathway to keep girls engaged in education, strengthen their agency, expand their aspirations, and help prevent child marriage. Rooted in the spirit of “If She Can - I Can,” the mascot reflects the Government of Rajasthan’s focus on making vocational education more visible and accessible to girls, encouraging them to explore diverse careers, build skills, and make informed choices about their futures. Aligned with this year’s International Day of the Girl Child theme, “End child marriage and invest in girls’ rights,” the initiative underscores the importance of investing in girls’ skills, choices, and opportunities as part of broader efforts to advance their rights and empowerment. At IPE Global, through the She Learns programme, we are proud to partner with the Government of Rajasthan in advancing this vision- where every girl has the opportunity to stay in school, discover her potential, and shape her own future. #SheLearns #IPEGlobal #VocationalEducation #GirlsEmpowerment #InternationalDayOfTheGirlChild #GirlsAgency #EndingChildMarriage

As we conclude Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2026, we turned to our Anganwadi Didis, who are an important link between women, families and essential support, with the question: What shapes her plate? Their answers reinforced that it’s never just one thing. What a woman eats is influenced by multiple factors — from knowledge, access and affordability to family support, social norms and her agency to make decisions. This understanding is central to our Cash Plus approach, which combines maternity cash benefits with evidence-based SBCC interventions, counselling and community support. As part of this work, we train and support Anganwadi Workers to strengthen their ability to counsel and engage with women and families- helping connect financial support with the information, support and services that can contribute to better nutrition outcomes. A heartfelt thank you to all the Anganwadi Didis for the work they do every day to support better nutrition for women and children. At Creative Convergence: Growth Reimagined- Creative Economy Week for India and the UK in Mumbai, Komal Agarwal, Sector Head & AVP, Tourism, Heritage and Coastal Development, was invited as a speaker at the Heritage Tourism and Cultural Destinations session organised by the British Council. The initiative supports the ambitions of the India–UK Vision 2035 and the UK–India Programme of Cultural Cooperation (POCC), fostering collaboration across the creative economy. Key takeaways from Komal’s address: -Deepening ecological intelligence: Sustainable tourism demands that planning be anchored in a more rigorous understanding of the ecosystems it affects. She cautioned against relying solely on numerical carrying-capacity models and advocated adaptive management frameworks that monitor ecological thresholds and guide development. -Heritage as catalytic investment: Heritage conservation projects should be assessed not only on direct financial returns, but as catalysts that stimulate private investment and local enterprise. She also shared innovative approaches to improving the bankability of such projects. -Festivals and events as shared cultural products: These can open up new avenues for India–UK collaboration. #HeritageTourism #CreativeEconomy #SustainableTourism #DestinationDevelopment #IndiaUKPartnership

“The value of a maternity benefit is measured not by the rupees transferred, but by what it enables in a woman’s life: better nutrition, timely care, reduced financial pressure and preparation for a safe birth.” In her recent article for @ET_Government, Dr. Mrinalini Darswal, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Women & Child Development Department, Government of Odisha, makes a compelling case for looking beyond cash transfers to understand what drives better maternal and child nutrition outcomes. Drawing on Odisha’s MAMATA maternity benefit programme, the article highlights why financial assistance delivers greater value when complemented by care, counselling, family support, women’s agency and access to quality services. At IPE Global, we are working with governments across states to implement a Cash Plus approach that combines maternity cash benefits with evidence-based Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) interventions. The aim is to help women translate financial assistance into better nutrition and timely care for themselves and their children.
