✊✊Union power for the POWER Act!

Last week, Freelancers Union joined our allies in the labor movement to rally for the POWER Act and a simple principle: no worker should have to accept unfair treatment simply because the company on the other side is bigger and more powerful.
For freelancers, this imbalance is all too familiar. Independent workers often face powerful corporations alone, with little bargaining power or recourse when things go wrong. And as AI transforms the creative economy, artists and other creative workers face new threats to their work, livelihoods, and rights.
The POWER Act would help shift that balance by giving New Yorkers more tools to challenge unfair and abusive business practices.
We're proud to stand with our labor allies in this fight. Every worker deserves the power to stand up to corporate abuse, whether they're employed full-time or working independently.

Strong winds and thunderstorms are expected in NYC Friday evening. Wind gusts of 40–60 mph could bring down tree branches.
⚠️ Stay safe:
• Be indoors when storms move through between 6–9 p.m.
• Secure loose outdoor items.
• Allow extra time if traveling and never drive through standing water.
• Stay away from downed power lines.

More than 100 elected officials have joined me in calling on parking lot and garage owners across New York City: Don’t give ICE a place to operate. Don’t rent to them. Tell them they’re not welcome.
Last week, ICE agents shot Oscar Belgal in the neck in Marble Hill while his 5-year-old son sat in the car. They had been staging nearby in a private parking lot.
Our city laws keep ICE off public property. Now, we’re calling on private property owners to do the same. One garage on Morton Street already removed ICE vehicles after neighbors spoke out. Every owner has that power.
“Affordability doesn’t distinguish between consumer or worker activity; why should the law?”
The POWER act will help consumers and workers fight back against unfair and abusive practices.

The POWER Act is a first-in-the-nation bill that would make NYC’s consumer and worker protections the strongest in the country.
Establishing a broad private right of action has never been more urgent, especially as the federal government retreats from protecting working people.
