R.I.P. to Willard Scott. He hosted a reboot of a talent show (similar to American Idol / Star Search) on the Family Channel that I performed on as a teenager! I have fond memories of meeting him and filming at Universal Studios in Orlando.
We lost Willard Scott passed peacefully at 87 surrounded by family, including his daughters Sally and Mary and his lovely wife, Paris. He was truly my second dad and am where I am today because of his generous spirit. Willard was truly a broadcast #icon

Do you guys know about Eugene Bullard, the first Black Fighter pilot & ONLY African American pilot to serve in WWI? He ran away from Georgia at 11 yrs and made his way to France, learned German, became a boxer, jazz musician, served in WWII & worked as a French spy against Nazis.

As you honor my father today, please honor my mother, as well. She was the architect of the King Legacy and founder of @TheKingCenter, which she founded less than three months after Daddy died. Without #CorettaScottKing, there would be no #MLKDay. #MLK #BelovedCommunity

If you’re a woman of many talents and multitudes it’s hard for people to put you into a box. You defy specialization. Your super power lies in your multipotentialite abilities. For so long I was negged for being too many things and felt insecure about my generalist skill set.

Just heard Twins Jazz is closing for good. That was where I started @wwjazzfest because no other venue believed in me. Run by two women— they always created space for us.
