Enterprises won’t rent AI forever. In a new op-ed for @TheAIJournal1, our co-founder Tom Chaffee makes the case that as AI becomes core to business operations, the advantage shifts from accessing the best model to owning the infrastructure that runs it. Why: -Sensitive data is what companies least want to send to third parties -At scale, owned infrastructure can beat per-token pricing -Most tasks don’t need frontier models; open-weight models are increasingly good enough -Vendor lock-in means exposure to pricing changes, outages and access restrictions The future is hybrid: frontier models for specialized work, and smaller models on owned infrastructure for everything else. When infrastructure becomes critical, ownership becomes strategy.

A validator can be online 100% of the time and still underperform: late votes, missed proposals, delayed inclusion. On Ethereum, the protocol rewards completed duties, not server availability. What institutions should be able to see: -Duty performance: attestation participation and timeliness, proposals and misses, per validator. -Benchmarking: rewards compared with the network baseline, with consensus, fees and MEV reported separately. -Risk posture: client mix, hosting and geographic distribution, slashing protection setup. -Incidents: what triggers an alert, how fast clients are notified, and a written post-mortem. -Change management: upgrade readiness and staged rollouts. Delegating validator operations transfers the work, not the accountability. If it matters to your risk, you should be able to see it.

1/ Ethereum’s next hard fork, Glamsterdam, went live on the Sepolia testnet on October 6. There is no mainnet date yet, but for anyone running validator infrastructure, preparation starts now. Here’s what changes.

6/ That detail is the real story for institutions. Every fork brings new validator duties, new client interfaces and new configuration decisions. Tested client updates, coordinated rollouts and close monitoring are what turn a protocol upgrade into a non-event for stakers.

Crypto VC participation just hit its lowest point since 2020: 651 unique active investors in Q2 2026, roughly 75% below the 2022 peak. The easy read is that capital has left. Our VP Wyatt Clancy makes the case for a more useful one: when checks are scarce, each one carries information. In a bull market, a funding round mostly proves a window was open. In a market like this, someone had to defend the deal to partners cutting exposure everywhere else. The total matters less than where the surviving dollars concentrate.
