ALT Statement reads, 'We are deeply saddened by the news of George Alagiah’s passing. George was a hugely passionate supporter of Fairtrade and our patron from 2002 to 2009. As an outstanding world correspondent for BBC News, George had a strong awareness of the issues that lie at the heart of our work and was a fierce advocate for trade justice. For over seven years, he donated his time between visiting Fairtrade farmers, meeting many campaigners and supporters, and hosting numerous events. His kindness and compassion towards everyone will always be remembered by all who had the privilege of working with him at Fairtrade. Our thoughts are with his wife Fran, their children, and their loved ones at this difficult time.'
