Mayor Ethan Baker

STATEMENT BY MAYOR ETHAN BAKER   TROY, Mich.—“I’d like to start by congratulating Congressman-elect Jeremy Moss on his win for Michigan’s 11th Congressional District seat and truly wish him well as he prepares to represent us in Washington. It was an honor running in this race with him and as the Mayor of the largest city in the district, I look forward to working with Jeremy to best serve the people of Troy and Oakland County.   “Comments are flooding in on the civility of this race. It surprises me in some ways that running a campaign with humanity is novel in today’s highly divisive political environment, but sadly, it is. There is a better way, and we are proud to have  consistently modeled that in this race. This was obviously not an electoral win for us, but I am heartened that, where many Michigan Republican congressional seats had dramatic swings toward the Democratic candidate, our race stayed relatively stable. I believe we can directly attribute this to our message of unity. We need to get past the political division that is hurting us all. I will never waver in my commitment to this.   “A congressional campaign is intense. Nowhere is that felt more than on the candidate’s family—and my family has been all-in during this year’s campaign. As such, I am beyond grateful for Bethany, Arden, Canaan, and Aven, who each brought their best over the course of this adventure. I love you all so very much. And those of you who know us, know that Bethany is more than a “supportive wife”. She is the glue that held the kids and me together every day and the heart and soul of all the good I do on a daily basis—from being a dad, a candidate for Congress, or the Mayor. Bethany, you are my rock, my deepest love, and I can never thank you enough for all that you have brought to this campaign. Oakland County fell in love with you too!   “I’d deeply like to thank my campaign team who worked diligently to ensure this campaign stayed true to who I am and how I govern, even when that got tough. Thank you to Nate Wilkowski, Hemanth Tadepalli, Ethan Lloyd, campaign contributors, interns, and volunteers for your day-to-day blood, sweat and tears! We have been so blessed by you! To all of you who voted for me—from every corner of the 11th District, Republicans, Democrats and Independents—I am so deeply appreciative for your trust in me and truly thank you from the bottom of my heart. It was an absolute honor to be your candidate for Congress.   “While this campaign may be over, my dedication to the City of Troy and to the people I represent is not. I am privileged to continue serving as Mayor for the next full year. My commitment to the same inclusive and thoughtful leadership will be my main priority now and in years to come.   ###

Dr. Shazia Siddiqi: “Misrepresented. Unheard. Afraid. Exhausted. This political climate has hurt so many of us, and last week at The Weight of the Divide, we made that hurt visible. 💙 One by one, people shared what this season has cost them: people tired of being misrepresented, entrepreneurs feeling it in their small businesses, and all of us stuck in bubbles, separated by red lines we long to cross, as Troy Mayor and U.S. Congress candidate Ethan Baker beautifully represented in his art. Then we did what this political climate rarely lets us do: we showed up for one another, no matter our differences. We didn’t just offer support. We let ourselves receive it, trusting people who see the world differently to hold our pain with care. We came carrying the weight of the divide. We left lifting each other. Seen. Heard. Supported. Healing starts there. 🕊️ Co-facilitating and hosting with my fellow art therapist Dr. Bethany Baker, First Lady of Troy, was truly an honor. Thank you to our venue space @goaffirmations, @fkldetroit for our teardrops to wings mural, @farahahmad9391 for refreshments, Michigan Association of Art Therapy, Michigan Counseling Association, Interfaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit, and others who created awareness about the event, and to everyone who came, made art, shared their pain, let others hold it, and lifted everyone else’s. ❤️” #arttherapy #electionstress #oaklandcounty #bridgingthedivide #metrodetroit

UNITY GOES BEYOND JUST SAYING “UNITY” — IT TAKES ACTION AND CARING! My wife, Dr. Bethany Baker (First Lady of Troy), and Dr. Shazia Siddiqi brought together a diverse group of people from across the political, religious, and cultural spectrum—Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Christian, Republican, Democrat, Independent, Black, White, Brown, and people of genders—for an evening of ART THERAPY. And I was happy to support all of it. Thank you to Affirmations in Ferndale for welcoming us!  We can all stay in our own bubbles, show off the people we know from our own circles and tribes, and talk about unity. But truly coming together from all sides, sharing our pain, listening to one another, and working toward healing during these divisive times is what really matters. This is how leaders need to show up—not just with words of unity, but with action, compassion, and caring. In healing spaces like these and in the halls of Congress. #BakerForCongress  #ListenLeadUnite #BridgingTheDivide #MI11 #Election2026
