If anyone is interested in ~9k words on why “don’t be silly, they’re not raped, it’s clearly depicted as a seduction!” is such an unsatisfying response to this kind of criticism… journals.publishing.umich.ed…
One thing I’ve noticed about younger people, including young queers, is their lack of ability to identify and comprehend subtext. They’re calling the scene where Frank N Furter seduces Janet and Brad dressed as Brad and Janet “rape”. Hello??? Did we watch the same movie? Like are y’all ok? I will gladly acknowledge that it’s icky when viewed through a modern lens… but it is NOT portrayed as or intended to represent rape. Due to the SUBTEXT!!! Which is that they both absolutely want to fuck Frank and end up accepting that and embracing their freaky desires. It’s about sexual liberation.

Two paper acceptances in two hours, for papers Ive been working on for years?(!)
I will never experience this high again
My paper “eroticised refusal narratives and perspectival rape myths” has been accepted and is forthcoming in Phil Imprint(!)
This is a version of the very first material I wrote for my PhD and I’m so happy and relieved that it’s finally found a home

PhDs are about setting your own research agenda - you can totally lose your mind every year if you like
Is PhD 2nd year the time where you totally lose your mind or there will be scope for more later? Asking for a friend.

Soooo distraught that my doctorate won’t make me more attractive to wannabe MRA grifters 😢
That - and the pretty gown - were surely the only reasons for getting the degree
Reading week = two excellent second-hand bookshops in Northumberland (Slightly Foxed in Berwick, Barter Books in Alnwick)
I’m sure these people get a lovely warm feeling from constantly snarking on others’ work, but I’m mystified by such open and confident displays of atrocious reading comprehension

Rather than asking “Is male sexuality somewhat violent?” we ought to pose a different question, writes Lillian Fishman: “Why does porn seem to imply that pain, submission and being at someone’s mercy is intimately connected to sexuality?”

I hate the trend of professional philosophers writing substacks defending an ethical claim by expressed total contempt for anyone with opposing views (Richard Chappell does the same)
I don’t care that it ‘boosts engagement’

I am learning from TikTok feminist discourse that Sabrina Carpenter *is* ‘doing the male gaze’ but Pitbull, with his sexy back up dancers, is not..
The line appears to be “if I am a woman and like it, it cannot be the male gaze”… noted ✍️
The scenes out of Ballymena are horrifying. Sexual assault used, again, as always, as a pretext for racist violence. And a chilling illustration of the need to take anti Gypsy/Roma/Traveller hate seriously. Nauseating.
Confirmation that I’m staying in Cardiff for another year - incl getting to teach 2x feminism modules(!) - and a weekend spent walking the Welsh coast with these beachy cows = a lovely start to the summer 🥰
