Last Tuesday was one of the hardest days I’ve ever faced, maybe the hardest, where instead of protecting my crying wife trembling with fear - I sent her back into her hell because there were no better options.

I am grateful, however, to have witnessed her dig deep inside and face fear head-on. I will always remember standing outside the fort with her. She was near bursting with emotion, flushed, teary, biting her lip, clenching her fists. Then she mustered her courage to walk back in.

Seeing her in her bravest moment, facing her own worst nightmare, is something I will always cherish. Not the hardship, but the vision of how strong she is.

How many more times will I realistically get to speak to my grandfather? How much is enough? My brother said he read somewhere that “the average person only sees their parents like 40 times after the age of 30.”

The man is in his eighties and still racing sailboats all the time, and golfing all the time, and dancing all the time, and fixing things on roofs or wherever - all the time. I’m going to call him today.

🧵5/6 If she can hold her mind together and push through the tortures of BCT in the dead of winter to give us a better life, then I can hold my mind together and do what needs to be done on my side to give us a better life.

🧵6/6 In each moment, each day, each week, I just need to focus on the most important thing.

🧵1/6 What’s the most important thing. What’s the most important thing. What’s the most important thing.

🧵4/6 It’s hard to focus when the back of my mind is fixated on Sara. So I keep saying - asking myself, reminding myself - “What’s the most important thing?”

🧵3/6 It’s 33 degrees Fahrenheit in Savannah, GA this morning and 29 degrees at Fort Jackson, SC - and I know she’s been awake and outside in the dark since 4:30 am. I know she can do it. I also know it is the hardest thing she has ever had to overcome.

🧵2/6 This has been my desperate mantra this morning, in hopes that it will help me snap out of this dazed longing, guilt, and worry I have from dropping Sara off at #Army Basic Combat Training (#BCT).

For those at scaling companies - how do manage tasks/tickets between marketing, engineering, and customer support? We use @linear, @NotionHQ, @SlackHQ, Googles docs, and more BUT it doesn’t feel fluid

Notion doesn’t feel like there’s enough guardrails as we scale to 30+ people. Linear is very engineering focused. Google Docs are too rigid and lack easy nesting/inter-linking/organization >> What have you seen work?
