Health of Mother Earth Foundation is organising an awareness rally (tagged: GMOs will not Address Nigeria’s Food Crisis) to amplify the discussion on GMOs and encourage the needed action to protect Nigeria’s food system and address the current food crisis. The campaign will promote Agroecology as a viable alternative not only to achieve food security but, more importantly, to achieve food sovereignty, and advocate for the establishment of an agroecology policy for Nigeria. @joyce_okeoghene @NnimmoB @kebetkachewomen @SocialActionNg @wtpnigeria @ERAFoEN1 @oilwatchafrica1 @CAPPAfrica @GrassrootsIntl @IENearth

What an incredible session today with the brilliant Richard Akinnola. It was truly inspiring to hear from the seasoned journalist, lawyer, and author. The conversation went far beyond the pages of a book, it was a call to action for every student, lecturer, and participant in the room. One takeaway really stuck with all: Reading culture isn't just about passing exams or surviving the classroom; it’s about equipping ourselves with the courage, perspective, and purpose to tackle the real world. Participants left today feeling energised and ready to apply the knowledge with boldness. Let’s keep reading to grow, not just to graduate. #ReadingCulture #Inspiration #LifelongLearning #RichardAkinnola #BookLovers #PurposeDriven @NnimmoB @kebetkachewomen @SocialActionNg @wtpnigeria @ERAFoEN1 @richardakinnola

What does it mean to truly reclaim power? The recently concluded Eti-Uwem School of Ecology brought together a vibrant mix of youth leaders and scholars to explore exactly that. Through deep discussions on the commons, the ethics of care, and the urgent need for community energy sovereignty, we unpacked what it takes to build a more just future. This wasn’t just a conversation; it was a call to action. By focusing on collective ownership and community led solutions, we are shifting the narrative from exploitation to regeneration. Grateful for the brilliant minds and passionate voices that made this gathering a catalyst for real change. The work of reclaiming commons continues! #EtiUwemSchoolOfEcology #CommunityEnergy #EnergySovereignty #ClimateJustice #Commons #CareEconomy #YouthLedAction #SustainableFuture @NnimmoB @CAPPAfrica @kebetkachewomen @ERAFoEN1 @SocialActionNg @centrelsd @PriceofOil @SMYFoundation @BSOECommission @IENearth @oilwatchafrica1 @rarespp

Renewables deployed without community ownership just repeat the same old supply chain. We need models where value and decisions stay local. This is our collective work. What would that look like in your community?
Renewable energy shift may lead to neocolonialism, Nnimmo Bassey warns naturenews.africa/renewable-… He faulted arguments that African countries should continue using fossil fuels because the West industrialised through them, likening it to continuing to take from a buffet “when the table itself is already on fire.” Tracing modern extraction to slavery, plantation agriculture and colonial trade, Bassey asked what happens when land, water, forests and human bodies are turned into commodities.

Victims of Systemic Neglect It is a devastating reality that the Bille fire victim, who survived the initial tragedy, has lost her life, not to the flames, but to the silence and neglect of a government and her health facility. This is not just a single failure, it is a recurring indictment of our healthcare system. How many more lives must be sacrificed to systemic apathy? Survivors of a catastrophe should be finding healing, not fighting for basic care in the very places meant to save them. A stream of sympathies will flow, but we need more than just sympathy. We need accountability. We need systemic reform to ensure that every life, regardless of circumstances, is treated with dignity and urgency. Our thoughts are with the family and the community of the deceased. We must continue to demand better. Bille population must not be left to burn and die like her. Lovers of Rivers State, Nigeria’s Niger Delta Region and Environmental Justice must quickly take every lawful action to compel accountability! @NnimmoB @CAPPAfrica @kebetkachewomen @ERAFoEN1 @SocialActionNg @centrelsd @Radec46 @wtpnigeria #HealthcareReform #Nigeria #BilleFire #JusticeForPatients #AccountabilityNow #HealthcareCrisis

We stood united against JBS factory farming. The rally by Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) and her partners from HEDA Resource Centre and Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth, Nigeria was a powerful call to action against industrial factory farming. It is time to address the real costs of these massive meat processing corporations on our land, our health, and our future. Factory farming isn’t just about food production; it is a major threat to Nigeria’s agricultural landscape and to the struggles of our local communities. We are demanding change for a better environment and true food sovereignty. Thank you to everyone who showed up and made their voices heard. Let’s keep this momentum going! #HOMEF #FoodSovereignty #StopFactoryFarming #ProtectOurEarth #NigeriaAgriculture

The stakeholders’ workshop on industrial animal farming was a success! With incredible turnout and deep engagement, we have taken a major step toward demanding better policy regulation and oversight for Nigeria’s food systems. Thank you to all who joined us in analysing the realities of large-scale investments like the JBS project. The path to #FoodJustice and #FoodSovereignty requires collective action. Stay tuned for our recommendations on creating a more sovereign food future for Nigeria. #HungerPolitics #PolicyChange #HOMEF

Industrial animal farming also known as factory farming presents growing concerns for Nigeria’s agricultural and food production landscape. It raises significant issues regarding public health, environmental sustainability, animal welfare, labor rights, and socio-economic equity. In November 2024, JBS signed a five-year investment plan worth $2.5 billion with the Nigerian government. This plan includes building six facilities in Nigeria: three poultry plants, two beef processing plants, and one port facility. The Nigerian government has pledged to provide the necessary and favourable economic, sanitary and regulatory conditions to support successful implementation of this project. Health of Mother Earth Foundation and Environmental Rights Action in collaboration with Youth in Agroecology and Restoration Network and HEDA Resource Centre are organising a stakeholders’ workshop which will bring together key stakeholders to critically examine the potential consequences of the proposed investment by JBS and largely of promoting large scale industrial animal farming in Nigeria without appropriate and stringent policy regulation/oversight. The event will connect Nigeria’s realities to global trends and make recommendations for policy formulation/strengthening, advocacy, and a sustain-able food system. #foodsovereignty #hungerpolitics #foodjustice

HOMEF inaugurated the FishNet Alliance in Kouvenafide, Benin Republic, on 7th August during the World Social Forum 2026. This community is one of the many communities displaced from their ancestral land for the construction of the West African coastal highway. In collaboration with the Africa Climate Justice Network, HOMEF showed solidarity with the affected communities and called for the government of Benin Republic to uphold justice and restore the livelihood and dignity of these communities. @NnimmoB @kebetkachewomen @CAPPAfrica @GrassrootsIntl @oilwatchafrica1 @SocialActionNg @SMYFoundation @PriceofOil @IENearth
