Today, alongside colleagues from @QMUL and the London Major Trauma System we are launching a new study into using AI to support clinical decision-making and enhance emergency life-saving care.
The study, one of the first to evaluate the use of AI-powered decision-support tools in trauma care, will see AI-TRiPS deployed across The London Trauma System, the largest integrated trauma network in the world which serves over 10 million people.
We’re looking forward to working with our colleagues @QMUL @NHSBartsHealth @LDNairamb @Ldn_Ambulance @KingsCollegeNHS @geshNHS @ImperialNHS to assess how the system can support doctors helping seriously injured patients.

Let's talk penalty context. Every time I post these, people are always moving the goalposts.
"All the Chiefs penalties are meaningless and don't affect anything! But every penalty called on their opponents is blatant cheating!"
Specifics vary, but it always boils down to that.

Short Exeter stems are safe for use in primary THA, with excellent survival estimates reported in current literature. There does not appear to be an increased risk of stem fracture versus standard-length Exeter implants.

Regarding @NEJM "Total Hip Replacement or Resistance Training for Severe Hip Osteoarthritis" (nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NE…): a rant.
- Can an ITT analysis for this study with 21% crossover to THA by 6 mo have any validity? How about 59% and 77% crossover to THA at 12 and 24 mo?
Absolute shambles today @ABZ_Airport @British_Airways!
Flight at 13:20 cancelled 😞 - rebooked 16:20 cancelled 😠 - rebooked 20:40 cancelled 😡!
No information, no one to speak to - if call just says too busy and line cuts off!!
Other flights are running…?
An important reminder that clinical trials are not infallible!
Well, well, this is quite a story that I had not known about. Re: PLATO trial and ticagrelor

Clinical academics in the U.K. (and particularly surgeons) @RCSEd @RCSnews @rcpsglasgow - why do the majority of post-PhD clinical / transitional fellowships appear to exclude surgical applicants?
I struggle to see how it’s feasible to be an effective, safe and developing early-career surgeon (end of training / early consultancy) with a maximum 40% of time (and some only 20%) spent on clinical activity (which would include SPA)?
Is there anyone out there who has done this and is happy to share their experiences?
Would love to see what percentage of applications are from surgeons / surgical trainees but can’t imagine it’s very high!

Latest waiting time figures are out and we @versusarthritis are disappointed that targets to eliminate 65week waits for elective orthopaedic surgery have been missed. Here's our @versusarthritis response.

Done well, #artificialintelligence can help prioritize patients with the greatest needs.
But w/o proper considerations, “you can ultimately end up with AI systems that worsen #healthdisparities," says clinical researcher Luke @docfarrow
