A great field day collecting data on our π² . Each year, we review sites where we identified π³ for retention years earlier in clientsβ infill projects. This knowledge helps us improve the quality of our reports and provide the best advice for our clients. #ContinualImprovement

It is #GroundHogDay. And things are looking a bit ominous. Interview with Ontario Registered Professional Forester, Astrid Nielsen of @DendronForestry (and sponsor of the trail). @KitchissippiOtt

Thrilled to announce the hiring of my first employee, Kevin Myers! A recent MFC graduate, Cert. Arborist and working towards his RPF. He found his π²passion working for Ont. Ranger program for 5 yrs. Looking forward to expanding business! #urbanforestry #woodlotmanagement
Heading out to assess storm damage at some sites while keeping one more car off the road. #urbanforestry #lifeofaforester #ottstorm

Perfect way to end #NationalForestWeek by planting a mini-red pine forest! We planted 50 seedlings in time for them to establish their roots for the winter, on a site that hasn't seen trees for decades. The best part? We brought them via canoe! #reforestation #treeplanting πΆπ²
Happy #NationalTreeDay ! Today I celebrate by acquiring 50 red pine seedlings and 3 deciduous trees to be planted this weekend. In their lifetime, these trees will sequester carbon, provide habitat and food for wildlife, clean the air, all while looking beautiful! π²π³
Pics showing impacts of Beech Bark Disease, a fungus transmitted through a scale insect introduced years ago. It feeds on beech tree sap, providing an opening for the fungus. The fungus severely weakens the tree leading to failure. Chapman Mills, S. Ottawa. #invasivespecies #BBD

Since we couldn't make our own this year, I bought our year's supply of #maplesyrup from my other fav sugarbush @wheelersmaple. They have been hit hard by COVID as their pancake house is closed during the busiest months. The drive is beautiful and worth the trip! #supportlocal
Always happy to support a great local initiative that gets people outside playing in nature!
Meet one of our sponsors, Astrid, from @DendronForestry. DYK that this large Bur Oak tree on the SJAM will sequester enough carbon this year to offset a flight from Ottawa to Calgary for 1 person? Will also reduce flooding by absorbing enough water to fill a small, in ground pool
Brief moment of panic as I come across a hole this large and instantly think Asian Longhorned Beetle. Sigh of relief - itβs only an old tap hole, lol. Things you donβt expect in #urbanforestry
Always glad to support such a positive community initiative that gets people out in the winter enjoying our beautiful natural areas. Kudos to all the volunteers that make it happen! β·οΈπ³

Thank you to the @OntModelForest for hosting the Mass Timber Institute's Director Anne Koven at the EOMF/@CIF_IFC Forest Seminar in Kemptville today.

Happy #NationalTreeDay π² π³! Spending lots of time looking at trees today at the #ISA Tree Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) course.
A patch of forest that is best to avoid. Poisonous Baneberry (beautiful red berries) surrounded by #PoisonIvy.
This looks like a bug π that would survive the #apocalypse . Found several of these empty pupal cases of #cicada nymphs stuck to a white pine.

When roots growing close to the surface increase in diameter, they can't force their way down into the soil, so they begin to protrude upwards into the lawn. Mower damage then often kills the tree. Removing the grass & either bare soil or mulch prevents this. RBG Edinburgh again!
