Ofwat is making Thames Water pay back *£2.87* to each household for dumping sewage
This is a distraction from the *£176* privatisation of water costs each household EVERY YEAR

Kent is looking like a petri dish today after @SouthernWater poured sewage into our sea and rivers following the rain.
Whitstable has seen 17 hours of sewage in the last 24 hours.

90% of England’s water industry is foreign owned.
The result has been low investment, high customer bills, raw sewage in rivers, over 1,200 criminal convictions, and harms to nature, health and national security.
Public ownership is needed.

CLEARED, DEAD AND STILL UNPAID
A man runs a post office on a Scottish island for 14 years. Then a computer calls him a thief. Courts later decide the computer could not be trusted. Bill never hears the news. He died 11 years earlier.
Meet William Quarm, known as Bill. He ran the Paible Post Office and shop in Bayhead, North Uist, for almost 14 years. In 2008 investigators from the @PostOffice arrived to question him. Their accounting system, Horizon, built by Fujitsu, showed around £40,000 missing.
Facing jail, Bill pleaded guilty to embezzlement at Lochmaddy Sheriff Court in 2010 and got 150 hours of community service. He was a father of 5.
That is the Horizon scandal. Fujitsu's software made money look missing in branches across the UK and hundreds of branch managers were prosecuted. Around 100 were in Scotland, where the Crown Office did the prosecuting using Post Office evidence.
Bill died in 2012, aged 69. His widow Anne Quarm says it broke his health, nearly broke hers and they lost everything.
In 2023 the Appeal Court in Edinburgh quashed his conviction. Anne brought the appeal for him.
In January 2024 former Post Office investigator Raymond Grant told the Horizon IT Inquiry @PostOffInquiry that he still believes Bill stole the money.
A court quashed the conviction. Raymond Grant did not get the memo.
The government says people with quashed Horizon convictions can claim £600,000. As of 2024, Anne had received nothing. Her MSP @alasdairallan said the couple also got no pension payout after 14 years of service.
Everyone has said sorry. Sorry costs nothing, which explains the supply. Anne Quarm was still waiting for the version with a bank transfer.

Our NHS has been hollowed out over the last few decades. Thank you, @premnsikka, for speaking out
The UK has 2.4 NHS beds PER 1,000 people
Japan: 12.6
Germany: 7.7
Austria: 6.6
France: 5.4
OECD average: 4.2
This is why we have the disgrace of corridor care. It's time to invest and rebuild our NHS

NHS bosses say smaller maternity units may have to close.
It would force pregnant mothers to travel long distances to give birth.
How safe would that be? Local services are always more timely.
Financial numbers must not override human considerations.

When your editor was in charge, he was the fad. What he decided should be done in schools, was done. Diktat bingo.Gove said, ‘ Do it!’ . It was done.
They say that interests and trends in education come and go in cycles: the faddish focus on 'learning styles'; the debate between phonics versus whole language reading; the pendulum swing between flipped learning and personalised devices and more traditional, analogue instruction; the endless recurring discussions around diversifying the curriculum or whether to bring back coursework.
The latest hot topic seems to be on the importance of 'oracy' in schools.
In 2023, Keir Starmer promised to make oracy a priority, stating that the ability to speak clearly and argue cogently 'opens up a lifetime of empowerment' for students: 'confident speaking gives you a steely core, and an inner belief to make your case in any environment.'
Now it's back on Labour's agenda. Education Secretary Lucy Powell has announced that oracy needs to be 'hardwired' into a revised national curriculum and assessed as part of GCSE exams, on a par with reading and writing.

UK ‘an outlier in Europe’ for letting Farage and other politicians present TV shows.
GB News, owned by hedge fund manager, is the propaganda arm of Reform/Farage.
Politicians must be scrutinized, not allowed to present news or current affairs programmes.

They are environmentally insolvent and this isn't sustainable. Our bills will increase to pay for this. Let them go bust and take them back.

Allowing this dead-company-walking to be bailed out again, instead of taking it into Special Administration and then permanent public ownership, would be a disgrace and a betrayal by the Andy Burnham government
Enough is enough.

Thames Water is due to run out of money (again) over the next few weeks. A year and a half ago it was given a £3 billion bailout now it's asking for another £2.4 billion.

In 2024, Trump campaigned on "ending inflation on Day One."
Two years later, the affordability crisis is even worse than when he returned to office — thanks to his policies.
This ought to be a joke
If @Ofwat seriously wanted to stop poor performance it
- would have said NO to 36% bill rise last year
- would have said NO to £3.4 billion bill rise on top of that
- would be taking private water companies into PUBLIC OWNERSHIP
