"Is COVID still affecting our health? Experts explain its impact on immunity and the heart" Four experts discuss COVID-19's long-term effects, including heart attacks in young people, fertility concerns, repeat infections, and immunity. They urge prevention over self-medication.

1. The bottom line: SARS-CoV-2 only emerged in late 2019. No-one can know the long-term effects of repeated infections, but with anosmia and cognitive dysfunction as common symptoms, the assumption I make is that there is a tsunami of early-onset neurocognitive diseases coming.

Another coworker from my old job died. 40 years old. “Natural causes”. Coworkers are dying at 5 times the previous rate since 2020. This is not natural.

Before the pandemic when I would watch scary movies I would find them to be so unrealistic, for what real person would just ignore clear signs that they were in danger? But at this point I have learned that isn’t so unrealistic, no, it isn’t so unrealistic at all.

One more bizarre story this week for the Covid Twilight Zone. I have a longtime friend who I always thought of as my most grounded, logical and insightful one out of everyone. She lives 400+ miles away. So I’m always so excited to hear from her. She called this week and I was thrilled! Whenever I need to have an objective opinion about a decision, I have always reached out to her. We would share Covid information, me from a professional lens…and her from a community view. She was a teacher who had to retire after being hospitalized for Covid and developing Ocular Paralysis in 2021. Ocular Paralysis makes her unable to move her right eye. She has endured several surgeries over the past few years to regain movement. None of which have been successful. This week when I asked my friend if there were any changes in her condition, she stated that “If I had unmasked sooner my eye would have improved.” I asked “How can that be?” She stated that “EVERYONE has an eyeball stuck because they had problems seeing over their masks.” I said, “I still Mask and both of my eyeballs are still moving.” She said, “Well you don’t live in Michigan.” I asked her very slowly “Are you saying that Ocular Paralysis, a condition that originates from an INFECTION or disease state is somehow coming from Masks?” She said, “Yes, and being in lockdown where your eyes are inside the house all day.” The only thing that I could think was “Damn! YOU TOO!” The only thing I could do was sit down in the “off limits” living room, poured a glass of wine, lit a candle, and played some Camden Stewart. I’m beginning to think that No Interaction is the Best Interaction.

University of Minnesota researchers studied 9,660 COVID-19 patients and found that starting metformin within 6 days of infection was associated with a 53% lower risk of Long COVID or death. The findings reinforce earlier randomized trial results. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

I wish more people understood that disability is universal. You will experience disability at some point in your life, whether from accident, illness, old age, or even temporary disability. Please advocate for accessibility because it literally benefits everyone.

Imagine reading three Nature papers about SARS-CoV-2 damaging the brain. “Holy shit. That sounds serious.” Then remembering you were sick last week. Then remembering you didn’t test. Then remembering COVID is going around. Then remembering SARS-CoV-2 causes COVID. Then remembering COVID is what we used to test for. And then realizing that not testing for COVID doesn’t actually prevent you from getting COVID. What an incredible time to be alive.

I would ask “who is still masking” every six months. I stopped. Maybe I’m afraid that our group is getting smaller… Today I ask again - where is the #MaskUp & #ThirstMasking crew?
