Legendary @CBSNews Pentagon correspondent David Martin discusses how Secretary Hegseth has unleashed strict new rules that obstruct press access in the Pentagon. Martin covered the building for 40 years and says this is night and day from the access he had for decades.
Under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Pentagon press now face strict limits, including no more freely roaming the halls, only escorted visits, and fewer briefings. It's not just a “war on leaks," but aimed at “making the Pentagon as difficult to cover as possible, says CBS News national security correspondent David Martin, who has covered the beat for over 40 years. "The next step is to ban reporters entirely from the Pentagon,” Martin adds.

After calling journalists fake news at Fort Bragg this week, including reporters from @BreitbartNews, @DailyCaller @FoxNews & others traveling with him, Hegseth announced new restrictions on Pentagon reporters, upending more than 75 yrs of precedent. Press Association response:
The @PressClubDC statement on the unprecedented restrictions placed on reporters at the Pentagon by Secretary Hegseth.
Transparency isn’t a threat. Independent reporting on national security isn’t a luxury. It’s democracy.
The Pentagon’s new media policy undermines transparency and the public’s right to know.
Here’s the full @PressClubDC statement.

Houthis downed another U.S. MQ-9 drone near Yemen this week, per to 2 U.S. officials - the 5th MQ-9 downed by Houthis since the current offensive against them began March 15. Despite over 500 U.S. airstrikes against them the Houthis still have the airspace contested. @MoshehNBC
After months of regular updates, CENTCOM stopped sharing any details about operations against the Houthis as the Trump admin refuses to provide any details about the current offensive at all, beyond repeatedly proclaiming it as successful without facts to prove it.

Thirty days into the U.S. bombing campaign against the Houthis in Yemen, the enemy has shot down another $30 million Reaper drone, @ckubeNBC reports—the 5th one destroyed. The Pentagon has revealed almost nothing about its progress, but the Houthis have proven they can still fire projectiles, threaten U.S. assets and keep the airspace over Yemen contested.
The @SecArmy was informed of his new job while traveling in Europe.
FBI Director Kash Patel has been removed from his role as acting director of the ATF, and the job has been given to Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, two Justice Department officials and another source familiar with the matter tell NBC News.
ATF officials who learned the news today were shocked and confused, the two DoJ officials said, and no explanation for the change was given.
The Justice Department did not respond to our request for comment. Nor did a spokeswoman for Patel.
Driscoll, who is 38 pr 39, is expected to continue in his job as Army Secretary. Both roles are normally considered full time jobs.
Sources say Patel had not been seen inside an ATF facility for weeks.
