Foursquare was acquired last month. The outcome was disappointing. It's taken me a while to write this, but I think I'm finally done grieving it. Here are some thoughts on our final years, an effort to honor the team who helped build & maintain FSQ's legacy, and my attempt to finally get some closure. teendrama.substack.com/p/som…
Blue Ocean Materials founder @lucasme_12 explains why El Segundo feels like Silicon Valley in the ’80s:
"You’re seeing these founders tackling these very hard problems where we have no playbook. El Segundo feels like what I imagine was Silicon Valley in the ’80s."
"There’s no career path. Who do you mimic? How do you create a Valar Atomics? How do you make it rain like Rainmaker? It’s just a bunch of mavericks trying to solve these problems."

As of this week we have three very talented people who are joining Mericron as advisors - genuinely great people that are experts at what they do.
We are aiming to finsh our pre-seed raise this year and hire the right engineers for RF and chip development begining early 2027.
Our goal is to bring a superior all-American
Wi-Fi 7 chipset to the market in Q3 next year.

Neenah is a gem. Kimberly Clark drove the paper industry here, and the supply chains that supported it built the Fox Valley into the state’s industrial heart
The result is a town with pure Americana class that sort of represents everything great about Wisconsin
The AI arms race is the foundry race. The real power belongs to whoever can manufacture electricity.
Elon Musk says SpaceX is using its rocket-engine casting shop to make turbine blades and vanes, the parts that run 12 to 18 months behind the rest of the turbine, so it can bring power online 12 to 18 months faster than anyone else
“So we’re casting the blades and vanes for the turbines. So SpaceX already has a very advanced castings capability that was developed for rocket engines."
"So we have, I think, actually the most advanced casting capability on Earth, because the demands for castings for rocket engines exceed the demands for anything else you could possibly imagine."
"So, taking that incredible team that has, I think, objectively the most advanced casting technology in the world and saying, hey, can you guys also make some blades and vanes for terrestrial turbines is much easier than what they have done in the past."
"And when we talk to the turbine suppliers, they tell us that the blades and vanes are 12 to 18 months behind the rest of the turbine. Meaning they can deliver everything except the blades and vanes 12 to 18 months before they can deliver the blades and vanes."
"So casting is this really difficult bottleneck. And if anything, it seems to be getting worse."
"So that means that we can bring power online 12 to 18 months faster than anyone else."
"That’s the kind of advantage that’s difficult to replicate. Unless someone else is building an advanced casting shop, they will be unable to compete with SpaceX in this regard.”

Anthropic opened a wetlab, so OpenAI had to acquire a life sciences company to catch up.

We’ve acquired Orchestra Bio, a platform that helps biopharma teams coordinate the complex process of drug development.
Together, we’ll build on Rosalind, our AI models and tools for life sciences research, to streamline those operations and help new treatments reach patients sooner.
Welcome @ashokaraj_ and team!

Arda's Series A was co-led by @AltimeterCap, @Accel, and @khoslaventures, with participation from @xyz_vc, @8vc, @svangel, and @felicis and brings our total funding to $232M.
We’re growing our team and looking for manufacturing partners. Follow us at @Arda_Industries and come build with us!
Robotics Supply Chains (RSCs) will continue to need supply.
We believe solving dexterous manipulation is one of the largest opportunities in robotics. That’s why we're thrilled to lead Eka Robotics’ Series A.
Much of the world's physical economy still depends on people using their hands, and that work has been hard to automate because the real world is variable.
@EkaRobotics has built a Vision-Force-Action model that combines visual perception with force feedback from its robotic hands. The model, sensing, and hardware are designed together, so the robot can use physical contact itself as information.
If Eka’s approach works at scale, the implication is profound: robot experience can increasingly scale with compute rather than human labor.
Pulkit Agrawal is one of the leading researchers in robot learning and a pioneer in computational sensorimotor learning through work at his Improbable AI Lab at MIT CSAIL. Tuomas Haarnoja co-created a foundational algorithms in modern reinforcement learning at Berkeley and later worked at Google DeepMind training complex humanoid behaviors.
Congrats, @pulkitology, @haarnoja, and the Eka Robotics team!
