Advocacy Update: Earlier this week, ONC released its HTI-5 final rule. Importantly, the regulation preserves privacy and security certification requirements for health IT, declining to finalize its proposal to eliminate these requirements.
On behalf of our members, CHIME strongly opposed the proposed removal in our comment letter, emphasizing that eliminating these safeguards would weaken baseline security expectations across the healthcare ecosystem and increase operational and compliance risks for providers.
We thank ONC for listening to stakeholder feedback and recognizing the importance of maintaining these critical privacy and security safeguards for certified health IT.
