A storied program finds a good replacement to a legend. (although the AI cartoon picture of Coach P needs some work).
When you’ve already coached every kid on the roster since middle school, the first varsity practice gets a lot easier:
“Hi, I’m Coach Malotke.”
Team: “Yeah, we know.” 😂🥍
Jonathan Malotke comes full circle at Mariemont — from the inaugural lacrosse team, to junior-high state champ, to the THIRD head coach in program history.
And waiting in the trophy case? Steve Peterson’s little 203-win, five-state-title reminder that there’s absolutely no pressure whatsoever. 😬🏆

The number of years since a Columbus team has been in the Div 1 finals (despite having half of the regions). Remember when @laxcolumbus used to say how long it had been since Cincy or Clev had a state champion? Kinda quiet now...
With the state championships on the line from "historic" Crew Stadium, we will publish the All-State team graphics right early this afternoon. Great day for some big time lacrosse.

11 votes • Final resultsTwo familiar foes will square up in the regional final with Moeller and St. X matching up with a Final Four berth on the line. Moeller and Milford had a true battle - a physical, well-coached game but just a great HS lacrosse game. We said it before but Moe is a young team that kept getting better and was getting hot at the right time. It all clicked tonight. St. X was just way too much for Mason and a TD lead after the 1st quarter put it out of reach.
It'll be Mariemont and Fenwick from Kusel on Thursday night for the Region 8 Championship. Bellbrook took a 2-1 lead after 1 but Fenwick got the game winner from DJ Berning with :12 left to get the upset win. Meanwhile Mariemont cruised to a business-like dub over IH. Early Vegas odds has Mariemont as a 6 goal favorite. Fenwick is showing a ton of heart but gotta think they are punching above their weight class here.
Meanwhile D1 semis tomorrow night: Mason vs. St. X in a rematch of the stick-gate from last year and Milford needs to be careful to not overlook a young Moeller team thats getting hot just at the right time.
