This one makes me feel sad. I hate the suggestion at the end that we “can't keep Jews in Denver safe while Israel is executing a genocide.” I’ve got Jewish kids here in Denver. The safety of everyone in this city is an imperative, no matter what’s happening around the world.
I appreciate that Melat acknowledges that the Boulder firebomber was “trying to incite terror in the Jewish community.” That makes it antisemitic. Jewish safety means the safety of all Jews, whether or not we talk about Israel/Palestine exactly the way someone wants us to.
Look, we can be loud critics of Israel. I am. We can argue hard about US policy. We really have to. But the safety of our kids shouldn’t be part of that debate.
DSA candidate Melat Kiros responded to criticism for not calling an attack on an Oct. 7 hostage-support demonstration in Colorado an act of antisemitism.

Spare me the pearl-clutching — especially from Republican Members of Congress and online MAGA grifters who have cheered President Trump's weaponization of the government against those he doesn’t like, as recently as last week. This is a subject I know something about: Less than a year ago, Trump directed the DOJ and FBI to investigate me, and then tried to criminally indict me for a 90 second video, exercising basic free speech. The same free speech you’re exercising now, lying about what I said in this clip. If not for an anonymous group of grand jury members standing up for America's laws, I’d be criminally indicted for sedition. President Trump has turned the government against people, with raucous support from you and virtually all D.C. Republicans. So spare us the manufactured outrage.
America must be a place where the rule of law still matters. Those laws should apply to everyone equally. If you have aided in the corrupt use of U.S. taxpayer dollars to benefit the President or his family, or you have violated the law in order to carry out guidance from the President, you should be held accountable. And given how rampant that corruption appears to the average American, people looking to work for his Administration should realize that while the Supreme Court has granted the President immunity, it has not done the same for those who do illegal things at his behest.

A 51-year-old Los Angeles man, Steven Duenas, is accused of planning a mass-casualty event at a Jewish preschool.
Along with posting that "Not enough synagogues have burned down," he posted multiple images of cocktails he had created. He also outright posted that he was considering bombing Jems, the preschool in question.
His mother has come to his defense, saying that Duenas was always respectful of others, and maybe it had something to do with a Jewish family they used to live next to who weren't very nice, though she "isn't making excuses."
Because hating an entire group of people because of one bad experience with a member of that group makes sense and isn't pushing the blame on the victims.

Agree. It’s not a “win” when a teen is able to procure a shotgun and use it to carry out a mass shooting. We can’t rely on acts of bravery to stop tragedies that should never happen in the first place. Prevention has to start long before someone walks into a school with a gun.

Four people were killed Thursday when a 16-year-old opened fire at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. Three of the people killed were children, aged 5, 8 and 11, as well as a teacher, authorities said.

According to reports, the Irish team players wore black ribbons and bowed their heads during Israel’s national anthem.
Turkish players covered their palms to avoid skin contact when shaking hands, and turned their backs to the Israeli flag.
Regardless of your opinion of the Israeli government, these actions are simply born out of hatred.

Our office was evacuated, and I’m grateful that my staff is safe.
I want to thank the Prince William County Police and Fire Departments, as well as federal law enforcement, for their swift response and professionalism.

Our hearts are with the family of Megan Lambert, who has been identified as the teacher shot and killed yesterday at Silver Rail Elementary School.
Megan was only 25-years-old.
In a statement, Megan’s family shared the following: “She loved Silver Rail. This was her dream job. Megan was compassionate and had a huge heart. She always fought for the underdog and those with special needs… We would like the other families to know they are in our thoughts and prayers. Megan loved those children, and so we will show you love for her."
Megan also worked as a volleyball coach at Central Oregon Volleyball Club, where in her first year coaching, she turned down payment so that the money could go to the families of the players who could not afford to play. She was a selfless, beloved teacher, sister, and daughter who will be deeply missed.
Megan deserved better, and we will always fight in her honor.
