Being a professor's assistant DOES seem like it would be so much easier in retrospect...
True story. When I first wanted to enter science I Googled the type of AI I was interested in. I kept finding mentions of @CharlesOfria, but he was an "Assistant Professor." For 1-2 frustrating days I thought "I don't want the professor's assistant! Who is the real professor?!?"

Jose was co-advised by @amlalejini and myself, and his dissertation title is "Beyond Benchmark Suites: Engineering Diagnostics Tools to Characterize Selection Schemes". We're really going to miss having him around, but excited to see what he does next.

This preprint is the fruit of several years of hard work by @peterlconlin & Heather Goldsby in collaboration with @CharlesOfria (who, w/ Heather, built the platform), @wc_ratcliff, @SFI_elibby, & Kate Skocelas- a truly wonderful higher-level unit! (14/14)

Have I mentioned that I'm heavily involved in organizing the virtual event and it is very, very inexpensive?
As in, $20 for student members inexpensive?
As for the in-person: Talks! Symposia! Posters! A museum visit! Workshops! Fundraising for Diné College scholarships!
Registration is now OPEN for Evolution 2023! Join us for the in-person conference in sunny Albuquerque this June 21-25 and for the virtual event a few weeks before on June 2-3! Details and registration at: evolutionmeetings.org. #Evol2023 @sse_evolution @ASNAmNat @systbiol

In evolutionary biology, is there a common term that encompasses both "selective sweeps" and "range expansions"? It's awkward to keep mentioning them both repeatedly, but I can't figure out a simpler wording.
Congratulations to DR. Matthew Moreno (@MorenoMatthewA)! Wonderful defense. My head is still spinning from all of the scientific directions your work has opened up; I'm excited to see your next studies on major evolution transitions.

This is exciting; I just found out that MSU has opened a new tenure-track faculty position in "Algorithmic bias reduction and/or auditing with results that may lead to improvements in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in society." careers.msu.edu/en-us/job/51…

If I ever quit academia, it will be because of the sheer volume of admin work that is being piled on us PIs. It's non-stop and is coming from all directions including the Univ. Attending training sessions, filling out forms etc is becoming my nth full-time job and I am fed up.
I'm writing a multiple choice question, and need to fill out the other options, so: In C++, what are the variable names 'argc' and 'argv' typically used for? Wrong answers only.
Happy 60th Birthday @ChristophAdami! It has been wonderful being your colleague and friend and look forward to many more years of collaboration and insightful conversation. May all of your grants be funded!
Congratulations @EmilyDolson and @joshua_nahum!!
