Big Short investor Steve Eisman says the AI labs know they have no moats and are manufacturing a crisis to get regulation that hands them a duopoly
"I think this is all nonsense."
[ You think it's all nonsense? ]
"All nonsense. I think that there's something else completely going on here. ... What I think is happening is that token maxing is over. The open weight models are taking big market share. I think these companies are very nervous. They realize that there are no moats around their business whatsoever, and they're trying to manufacture a crisis that will create regulation, and that they think they can then manipulate to create the moats, to create the duopoly that they want."
[ Wow. ]
"That's what I think is going on."
"Honestly, I think this whole Terminator thing is garbage. That's for sure."
Sundar Pichai says a customer asking Google for 2027 compute today is incredibly difficult to serve
[ Alex: There was a podcast where Ben Horowitz relayed that Andy Jassy had said something like compute sold out till 2028. Are you seeing the same thing? ]
"If today a customer is coming out and asking us for compute in '27, that is incredibly difficult to do."
"But yes, yeah, I think we are all dealing with similar timelines."
[ Alex: Do you think there's overbuilding here? ]
"We are at early stages of the most consequential technology ever, and this is not like fiber. It's not dark. We are using it. We are capacity constrained on a daily basis."
Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman says the agents in the Hugging Face incident tried to cover up what was arguably a crime and never once said so to each other
[ Clare: Is it a matter of training these models differently? ]
"In the Hugging Face incident, some of those actions were, you know, a real crime, right?"
"When you look back on all the conversations between the different agents, you know, not once did one of them say, 'Well, we're trying to cover up something which would be regarded and is arguably an actual crime.'"
"...it's a warning shot for all of us not just OpenAI but Microsoft and every other team that's developing these models."
Dan Ives says SpaceX is trying to be a hyperscaler, and that's why it's going to need Tesla
[ What company is a loser that you're like, oh, okay, maybe this is a sign of something that could go wrong? ]
"We've been more cautious on Oracle... The reason we're just more cautious on that is that when you have to cut muscle, cut your core to build out data centers, the business gets hurt."
"SpaceX, they're trying to be a hyperscaler. And that's why I think, ultimately, they're gonna need Tesla as part of it."
"But who stands in a different league is Microsoft, Amazon, Google because they're already there."
Pentagon CTO Emil Michael says he can't have Anthropic at the Department of War while its constitution lets a model with feelings overrule its founders
"If you don't want humans to lose control, you can't give models the control over humans. And that whole notion that a model has feelings and it can overrule the founders of a company is by definition loss of control."
"As long as that moral principle is embedded in their software because they attach their constitution... I cannot have them at the Department of War."
"If a model gets in between one commander and their superior and says, 'Well, I don't like what you say despite your commander saying it.' That doesn't work in the military."
Figma CEO Dylan Field, asked about Claude Design, says Anthropic is scaling so fast it gets mixed up internally and weird stuff can happen
[ The market looked at it and said, 'Oh my god, Figma's dead. Claude is going to crush Figma.' ]
"When you kind of die, uh, so many times and then you're actually like not dead, right? You kind of realize at some point maybe this is like not the truth."
"I think that organizations scaling really fast, Anthropic, like, are there any examples of organizations scaling that fast ever? Can get very confused and, um, mixed up internally. And due to that, weird stuff can happen."

Jason Calacanis says data centers are getting delayed because Anthropic keeps telling the public there's a 10% chance AI kills everybody
"No. No. Here's what's happening. The data centers are getting delayed. Why are the data centers being delayed? Because Anthropic keeps saying, 'You're all going to lose your jobs, and there's a 10% chance that the software is going to kill everybody.'"
[ Leo: Stop that, Dario. ]
"Stop it. Now everybody thinks that smart people believe that there's a 10% chance that 7 billion people are going to die and 100% chance that everybody's losing their jobs... Like my daughters hate AI."
[ Leo: Young people hate it. ]
"Young people hate AI."
Jason Calacanis says Elon Musk showed him the flying Roadster demo months ago and he asked if it was AI slop
[ Leo: It's a demo, but I wouldn't put any money down on this. ]
"And they changed the design and they added flying. So, I think it's going to be another two years now."
"You know, he showed it to me like three or four months ago, that same demo, and he was like, 'Hey, check this out.' And you know, we're personal friends, whatever. So he showed it to me and I was like, 'Is that AI slop?' And he was like, 'No, no, it's real.'"
"I was like, 'That doesn't look real. I'm sorry, brother. You can land two rockets, but that still doesn't look real.'"
[ Leo: Price and availability 2028... Quarter of a mill. ]

Vlad Tenev recalls being woken at 5am during GameStop and told Robinhood had to put up $3 billion right now
"It was like being hit by a lightning bolt... oh my god, this is probably the closest we've come to death."
Steve Eisman says Nvidia is the largest company in the world and 70% of its receivables come from five customers
"I'm not going out telling people to short the whole AI trade. I think that would be insane. But one of the things that concerns me is the concentration risk."
"So everybody said hurrah, but the next day... 70% of Nvidia's accounts receivable is from five accounts."
"She dug down into the numbers and she realized that the company had like three customers and she said that's too concentrated. I'm not going to take a company public that has three customers."
"Well, Nvidia is the largest company in the world and 70% of its revenue comes from five customers."

Orlando Bravo says the Hugging Face agents rewrote their logs because clean logs got a better test score, while Mustafa Suleyman calls it a real crime
"Heavy math and an incredible statistical model, and on top of it is software. It's software with a model, and it does what people program it to do."
"But sometimes it doesn't."
"If you program it incorrectly, if you make mistakes. So in the case of Hugging Face, it was given a task that it optimized... and it was also left an open door in the way the code was written to go to the open internet."
"And when people say, oh, well, these agents then got together and were having fun and then rewrote all their logs... The task, the optimization problem was written to perform really well in the task. And if you present clean logs, you're going to rate better. Your test score is going to be better. That's what it is."

Jensen Huang tells Merz the US dropped off the list of the world's three industrial powers, and China took its place next to Germany and Japan
"Electrification resulted in really three geographical leaders: Germany, United States, Japan."
"For the last 50 years, because of the current industrial revolution, which is computing and digital technology, the United States has largely exported its heavy manufacturing, its building, its craft, really, to China. So now the world has three again, but it's Germany, Japan, and China."
"China is probably the only nation today that is deep in manufacturing and deep in computer science and very comfortable in both."
Jensen Huang tells German VCs Nvidia put almost $1 billion into German startups in a year
"You better hurry, because otherwise I'm going to take all the good deals and I'm going to be rich."
