1/ 💩When do you order stool studies and start antibiotics for #diarrhea?
Get #cultures: For severe symptoms, high risk host, bloody diarrhea, and prolonged symptoms!
Start #antibiotics: For hemodynamic instability, hospitalized patients, age >=70, and serious comorbidities!
3/ 🦠Finally, there's a rise in #ciprofloxacin resistance in nontyphoidal #salmonella, so consider switching antibiotics if diarrhea is still persistent.
Other options include #ceftriaxone and #azithromycin.
