ALT Key takeaways The panel had an interesting and important discussion about how we deliver a network of river corridors across England. There was strong consensus that restoration of our river corridors would provide benefits for nature, climate resilience and local communities. Each panellist outlined the barriers impacting progress on river restoration for their sector, highlighting a mix of both financial and regulatory issues. The importance of partnership working across sectors, and blending of public and private finance was made clear. We were delighted that, during the panel, the Minister committed to meet with the Riverscapes Partnership to discuss our campaign asks in more detail, and we look forward to meeting her.

ALT We were pleased to hear Secretary of State Angela Eagle's announcement on the last day of the conference that new funding will be made available to help local communities create climate-resilient landscapes and drive nature's recovery. £26m investment in Local Nature Recovery Strategies will help Mayors and local authorities to restore natural landscapes such as wetlands, and increase restored river corridors. This will help tackle some of our greatest threats such as flooding, drought, and water pollution, whilst also providing an exciting opportunity to support Defra’s ambitions to return beavers to the wild in England by making space along river edges to accommodate beavers and the habitats they create. We hope this funding will translate into practical delivery on the ground, building momentum towards a joined-up approach that can ultimately be rolled out at landscape scale.
