An update on the data incident announced on 8 October
We recognise that this incident has caused concern to many of our cardholders, and we sincerely regret the concern and inconvenience caused.
This update sets out the steps taken since our last announcement and the precautions that cardholders are advised to take.
What we have done since our last update
- We have filed a police report and are working with the police and the relevant authorities on their investigation.
- We have engaged independent security experts to carry out a security audit of our systems related to card services.
- We have paused new Based Visa Card signups until the independent security audit of our card services systems is complete.
- Requests to close accounts have been processed. Our operations and compliance team is handling the orderly withdrawal of funds for those accounts.
- We are strengthening our internal security controls and working towards recognised third-party security certifications.
Support for affected cardholders
We are finalising further support measures for affected cardholders, which will include identity monitoring services. Eligible cardholders will be contacted directly by email once the arrangements have been confirmed.
What has not changed
Based on our investigations to date:
- The Based Wallet, including perps trading and onchain swaps, was not affected and continues to work as normal.
- Card numbers, CVVs, PINs, ID photographs and liveness check images were not affected.
- Funds on your Based Visa Card are safe, and cards continue to work as normal. Cashback and rebates continue to accrue.
- Be careful of anyone who contacts you using your personal details
- We will never ask for your card number, PIN, CVV, passwords or seed phrase.
- Based Visa Card support is only available through the in-app support chat.
- Our team members will never DM you on Telegram or X about your account.
- Do not click links or sign wallet transactions from unsolicited messages.
- Our emails about this incident will direct you to check details in the app. They will never ask you to enter card details, payment information or passwords through a link.
Further updates will be shared with affected cardholders directly by email.
This update reflects our understanding as of today and may change as the investigation continues.
Based Visa Card: Security Incident Update
On 5 October 2026, we were alerted that an unauthorised party has gained access to an internal dashboard used to manage the Based Visa Card program. The attack was swiftly stopped and contained as soon as it was discovered.
KYC data collected by our card issuer for some cardholders, including name, ID or passport number, date of birth and address, may have been obtained by the attacker.
What was NOT affected:
- Card numbers, CVV and PIN
- Photographs of IDs and liveness check images
- Based Wallet, which was used for trading
- Funds on the Based Visa Card. Your funds are safe and Visa cards continue to work as normal.
Affected cardholders have been notified by email today, and relevant authorities have been informed.
What can you do next?
If you are one of the affected users, assume that the data is compromised. Be careful of impersonation attempts from anyone who possesses that information. Sophisticated attackers may use this information to perform social engineering attacks.
Also, support for Based Visa Card is only done on the in-app support chat, and no team members will DM you on Telegram or X for account servicing purposes. For security reasons, comments on this tweet is disabled on purpose.
We are sorry about this incident, and we are working closely with our card service provider to tighten access controls and enhance monitoring.

An update on what we have been working on in the last few days.
The compliance and operations team has been replying to affected users. PDPC and relevant authorities has been informed, and a police report has been made. We are working closely with law enforcement on the card data breach incident.
Card operations continue working as per normal.
Our trading wallet and app is not affected by this. The wallet is self-custodial and we do not host the keys.
Social logins are managed by Privy. You can continue to trade with Based.
We've seen questions about an admin dashboard said to have leaked five months ago. That said “admin dashboard” is separate from our card operations and is not related to the card incident. It held no customer data. It was part of an early developer build of a managed OpenClaw product we prototyped in March 2026. We tested it with a small internal group, decided not to release it, and discontinued it shortly after.
Based has grown to where we are through various growth strategies. Hyperliquid lists a few example of frontends, but it’s ultimately the team’a responsibility to grow market share via their own means. We will continue to accelerate our growth via marketing in different channels.
For now our priority is to:
1. Continue to address and provide support for affected customers in data breach;
2. Further tightening security controls within team and enhancing monitoring;
3. Continue to build the best trading experience for our traders

We are sorry.
We know how much privacy matters to you, and how careful many of you are about who you share personal information with. You trusted us with yours. We should have held ourselves to a higher standard in protecting it. We understand and we are deeply sorry.
On 5 October 2026, a security alert led us to discover the incident, and we contained the attack immediately. By then, some user data had already been accessed by the attacker. We fixed the vulnerability and tightened our access controls.
The attacker tried to reach deposited funds but was unable to. Funds on the Based Visa Card remain safe and cards remain operational. Funds in the Based App wallet and Trading Terminal are also safe and were not affected.
After the attack, we reviewed our other systems and found no sign that they were compromised.
As soon as we made sure that all systems were thoroughly audited and extra security precautions were put in place, then we proceeded to disclose this incident to affected users. Cardholders who are affected have the right to know.
If you were affected, please be extra careful. Sophisticated actors may use this information to try to trick you.
For account queries, use the in-app support chat. It is the most secure way to reach us, and it lets us verify that you own the account. No one from the Based team will contact you on X or Telegram about your account.
We are committed to strengthening the security of our systems.
Once again, we are very sorry.

Despite how simple the event was, I had a meaningful time with a great group of people.
The crypto market is going through a major shift this year, and @BasedOneX is constantly building and evolving to position itself at the center of that change.
It hasn’t been an easy journey until today, but I believe all the hard work will eventually lead to victory.
Stay based.
Our event is live now at Fairmont Singapore. Drop by if you’re around!
Spot @shu_bit_ at the end 😂
Meet the Based team at @token2049!
DM us to connect or discuss a partnership.
I’ve never publicly posted about @BasedOneX’s private event because… yk it’s literally a private event!
But we’re featured on the Token2049 event list, so I figured I’d share a little bit about what this event is about!
This time, all our team members will be there to meet our users, partners, and old friends. We’re fully hosting the event ourselves so we can actually focus on spending quality time with everyone who comes by.
We could’ve accepted a lot more people from the waitlist and kept a strict +1 limit, but we chose to curate our guest list instead and make room for the friends of the people we invited.
So if you’re invited, feel free to bring alllll your friends along!! :)
The venue is spacious with plenty of seats, so come hang out with the team, grab some egg tarts, and spend some quality time with us before you hop over to the other side events. We’ve also prepared the Based merch that was all the rage at KBW: tees, caps, and Stanley cups!
And.. if you REALLY REALLY REALLY gonna come, DM me for an invite 🫡
