Imagine if the championships in the NFL NBA MLB & NHL were defended like a Boxing World Title. If we were to go all the way back to the very first champion crowned in each league, and mapped every single "title loss" (simply when a champion lost their next game after becoming champion and a "new champ" was crowned) all the way to today, who would the current "lineal champions" of each sport be? Caveat - if a reigning champion folded/became defunct (not moved) without losing, I defaulted to the next closest season's champion. We started all the way back to the very first championship crowned - in the NFL for example, for this exercise the 1920 Akron Pros would be the first "lineal champion" So here are the current lineal champions: NFL: Houston Texans (won Oct 18 in London vs Jacksonville). 599 total title changes NBA: Philadelphia 76ers (won Oct 20 at MSG vs the Knicks). 3,206 total title changes MLB: Minnesota Twins (won Sep 27 by beating Texas). 9,324 total title changes NHL: Dallas Stars (won Oct 17 beating Chicago). 3,542 total title changes

Saturday night at Maple Leaf Gardens felt like a love letter to Canadian professional wrestling. @MapleLeafPW brought history and legacy and blended it seamlessly with present and future. In “Canada’s Most Famous Arena”, where World Champions have been crowned across decades, we saw the best that Canada has to offer, coast to coast, put on one of the best shows of the year from top to bottom. Almost every province was represented in the ring & crew, spanning generations of talent. Two of the greatest Canadians wrestling today, @Walking_Weapon @stu_dos battled for the Canadian title. The most decorated wrestler in history @RatedRCope brought the house down with his own love letter to the Gardens, where he first fell in love with wrestling. His opponent @SteveMaclin was incredible, decked in 🇺🇸 (but still using the most Canadian weapon possible, a goalie mask). This event made you proud of Canadian wrestlers and the 🇨🇦 scene. This was the kind of event you could only dream about back in the day. I was absolutely honored and humbled to play a small part. To @ScottDAmore (one of Canada’s great wrestling figures & leaders), the men and women on the roster, and the entire crew… THANK YOU. What a night. It is written in the history books in Canadian history. Pure magic that thousands took home with them. Doncha dare miss it… we certainly didn’t. 🇨🇦

Barry Melrose meant a heck of a lot to a heck of a lot of people - he was the first analyst I worked with on NHL at ESPN and I hit the jackpot - he was incredibly kind, warm, giving, and made me feel like I truly belonged in a place that maybe didn’t want me to at times. “Head down, do the work…” Coach was a man of routine. Every In The Crease day would start with us smoking a cigar at his little secret cigar speakeasy in Bristol (seriously it was in like an industrial yard then he’d enter a code and a humidor and poker table would appear), Outback Steakhouse (he’d get the chicken, we’d share a bloomin’ onion), then head to studio and watch pucks. Sometimes we’d be waiting to tape until 3am. Tough then, but wonderful memories now. “Hey Arda… name me any player from Saskatchewan and I’ll tell you what town they’re from”. Barry somehow always knew… and if the answer was Kelvington then the convo changed to the summer baseball league 🙌🏽 some of my favorite memories were when Boomer was in there with us. He loved Barry (who didnt). They would recite the entire roster of the 1968 Montreal Canadiens (Boomer would listen to Habs radio broadcasts from Long Island). I will always have love in my heart for you, Barry. Thanks for all those late studio nights, those words of encouragement, all the Wendel Clark stories and putting up with me constantly bringing up that Gretzky should have been called for high sticking on Gilmour… I will smoke a cigar in your honor. God bless Barry Melrose and his contributions to hockey. He deserves to be in the Hockey Hall of Fame and deserved for it to happen while he was alive and able to enjoy it. I hope everyone in Heaven is loving the stories Coach is surely telling them, and they are laughing at the time ESPN organized a big bus and restaurant for a goodbye party for Barry when he took the coaching job with the Lightning but then a month of so later they booked the same bus and restaurant for a “welcome back” party. Thank you Coach. Thank you for your passion for the game, for keeping the flame alive in America all those years, and for being the best coach and teammate I could have asked for. Thank you for all of it ❤️
