Agree or disagree. We’re free to debate respectfully. But I will say that over the years I’ve had athletes in other sports tell me the same thing after signing big contracts. They know the expectation to be great is there, but they also believe they already earned their contract
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. opens up on his slump year: “They didn’t pay me to hit 40 every year. They paid me for what I already did.”
I want people to understand one thing. The money they gave me wasn’t for what I’m going to do. It was for what I already did. They didn’t pay me because I’m going to hit 40 every year. They paid me for what I already accomplished. People are confused about that, but I think the same way they do. Like, sometimes I even say to myself: bro, they gave you all that money and you’re out here doing nothing. I try.
You know how it is with fans, when you’re good, they’re with you 100%. But when you smell like shit, like we like to say here, nobody supports you.
The ones who support you are the ones who stay with you. Those are my fans. My family.

I would make the trip to Afghanistan w/MLSE as part of a mission to cheer up the troops, bringing the Stanley Cup & NHL Alum. I was immensely proud to see the strength of our 🇨🇦 soldiers, & saddened to walk through a makeshift memorial of the fallen. In darkness, allies rise
I share a story in my book about the time I won a silent auction to have lunch with Mr. Robertson. I was still in school and full of dreams. I spent the whole afternoon picking his brain. He was very giving of his time and I’ll always remember his wisdom. 💔
