The On Track Academy's Youth Wellness Zone allows students in Northeast Spokane to lead projects that address youth anxiety, food insecurity and climate-related stress through schoolyard forests, greenhouses, composting, food distribution and more. Earlier this month, we got to see the work in action. In January, the American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America and the US Conference of Mayors awarded the initiative $200,000 through the Healthy and Sustainable Communities Awards, helping young people turn their ideas into projects that strengthen their schools, neighborhoods and environment. “This grant has not only expanded the operational capacity of the Youth Wellness Zone, but it allows for this youth-led initiative to reach its potential.” -Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown Learn more about the program and our commitment to supporting cities at BeverageFoundation.org/USCM. @MayorSpokane, @usmayors

Do zero-sugar beverages work as well as water for weight management? A new two-year randomized clinical trial says yes. Researchers at the University of Liverpool followed 493 adults over a two-year period. Participants who drank zero-sugar beverages lost as much weight as those who drank water. In full transparency, American Beverage funded this research, but consistent with standard practice for industry-funded science, the researchers had complete control over the trial’s design, data collection, analysis and interpretation. This is the longest trial of its kind, and it delivers the rigorous, long-term, randomized evidence the World Health Organization said was missing in its 2023 guidance on sweeteners. America’s beverage companies support more than 4.5 million jobs across all 50 states — over 15 additional jobs for every one we create. Take Middlestreet Graphics & Display in Columbus, OH: once a small print shop making displays for @GJPepsi, they’ve grown into one of North America’s most modern print shops. NEW: @Buffalo_Rock completed their expansion of their Oxmoor Campus in Birmingham, AL, adding blow molding capabilities that strengthens manufacturing operations and creates high-skilled jobs. "This investment strengthens advanced manufacturing in our city, creates highly skilled jobs and demonstrates Buffalo Rock's continued commitment to growing right here in Birmingham. We're proud to celebrate this milestone and the positive impact it will have for years to come," said Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin. The addition of blow molding capabilities supports 18 positions, and reduces the need for transporting and storing large quantities of empty bottles produced elsewhere. The company can now manufacture bottles onsite and immediately more them into production. Projects like these are proof of our industry continuing to invest in American communities. Last year alone, our industry invested more than $1.8 billion across two dozen facilities. More: bhamnow.com/2026/10/08/buffa…

Did you know that nearly 28 million cases of beverages are distributed across the Southeast right here from the Pee Dee? 🥤 I had the chance to tour Carolina Canners, an independent Pepsi bottler and beverage production cooperative headquartered in Cheraw. CCI employs more than 600 people in the area and continues to expand their presence bringing new jobs and new investments to the community. It was great to have the opportunity to see firsthand how every day work in the Seventh impacts thousands of households across the state and the region. Thank you all for having me!
